Production and Installation Manager (Mill Bay)

Production and Installation Manager (Mill Bay)
Description
Production and Installation Manager Prefabricated Wood Building Systems | Vancouver Island A new wood building manufacturing company is hiring its first production and installation manager. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build an operation from scratch, not to slot into an existing system. WHAT WE DO We manufacture prefabricated wood building systems, flat packed panels that ship to site and assemble into finished cabins and small buildings. Our product is solid wood, not engineered lumber or stick frame. These are buildings that will last generations, built with materials and methods that reward craftsmanship. Manufacturing happens in a controlled shop environment on Vancouver Island. Site work is installation and finishing. We have a proven prototype, confirmed pricing, and committed capital. What we need now is the right person to run the operation. THE ROLE You will own both shop production and site installation. In the early months you will be hands on, running the first builds with a small crew and leading the same crew through site installs. As volume grows, the shop and site functions may split into separate crews, but you will remain responsible for the full cycle from panel production through client handover. Site installations will be across Vancouver Island and occasionally beyond. Some jobs will require travel and overnight stays. This role requires more than carpentry skills. You will be responsible for production budgets, tracking costs against targets, pricing site work for clients, and managing to margin. If a unit is over budget, you need to know why and what to do about it. The shop work is closer to furniture making or boat building than to conventional residential framing. Precision matters. Repetition matters. Thinking about how to do something faster without sacrificing quality matters. WHAT WE NEED Red Seal Carpenter or equivalent experience (10 to 15 years in residential or light commercial) Experience with panel production, prefab, or shop based manufacturing is ideal but not required Ability to read drawings, understand sequencing, and translate designs into production steps Comfort managing a crew of 2 to 4 people Financial literacy: ability to build and manage budgets, track labour and material costs, price work accurately Willingness to build systems and processes from zero, not follow an existing playbook Driver's license and reliable transportation Cross training in plumbing or electrical is a plus but not required. WHAT WE OFFER Competitive base salary commensurate with experience Performance bonuses tied to production volume and quality Vehicle allowance Group health and dental benefits A real stake in building something from the ground up You will work directly with the founders, not through layers of management. Compensation is structured so that if we hit our targets, you will earn more here than you would staying where you are. We will discuss specifics with qualified candidates. As volume grows, you will be running a production operation with multiple crews, not doing the same job indefinitely. The ceiling is as high as you want to take it. WHO THIS IS FOR This role suits a tradesperson with 15 years of experience who is ready to run their own operation rather than work inside someone else's. The right candidate thinks about how to build something 50 times, not once, and can read a budget as well as a set of plans. We are a small company without layers of management. The person in this role will shape how the operation runs, not inherit a system that already exists. If you need structure handed to you, this is not the right fit. LOCATION Southern Vancouver Island, between Victoria and Duncan. Local candidates preferred. This is not a remote position. We have capital committed and are ready to begin production this summer. The opportunity is real and the window is now. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $70,000.00-$104,000.00 per year Perks: - Dental care - Employee assistance program - Extended health care - Vision care Willingness to travel: - 25% (required) Work Location: Hybrid remote in Mill Bay, BC (Cowichan Valley Regional District) Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2oavnl
