As a Sr Research Associate, Process Development at Gilead you will assume a full-time employment role in the capacity of Senior Research Associate, Process Development in Gilead Albertas Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) department. This individual will assist, primarily from lab-based activities, process chemistry activities for pharmaceutical APIs. These activities will include scale-down model development and qualification, process optimization, robustness studies, formal process characterization and risk assessments, and process validation. In addition, this individual will support process technology transfer activities, due diligence, and facility fit assessment for internal and external manufacturing facilities. Essential Duties and Job Functions: Plan and safely execute assigned experiments, with increasing independence, which support Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) department activities and project goals. Make key observations during reaction, work-up and isolation. Interpret data effectively, draw conclusions, summarize results and communicate to project and leadership teams. Demonstrate an ability to recognize anomalous or inconsistent results. Recommend alternatives, research new methods and techniques, and proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems. Provide regular updates (written and verbal) to the project team supervision. Use robust verbal communication and interpersonal skills to provide insight into the processes used to achieve experimental results. Work with collaborative communication and problem-solving spirit. Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal collaboration skills. Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams, learn new skills and proactively solve problems. Must think critically and creatively and be able to work independently to determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems. Familiarity with modern purification and analytical techniques, including HPLC, NMR, mass spec. Well-versed in job related software (e.g. Chemdraw, Microsoft Word/Excel/Power Point) and scientific literature searching tools (Sci Finder, Reaxys,etc.). Familiarity with statistical analysis to evaluate correlations, shifts and trends of chemical processes, and experience of Design of Experiments (DOE) is an asset. Experience with kinetic studies or process analytical technologies (PAT) is an asset. Experience with continuous manufacturing is an asset. Previous experience in manufacturing under GMP is an asset. Minimum Qualifications: MSc in Organic Chemistry (or related discipline) and 0+ years of experience OR BSc in Chemistry and 2+ years of experience (Organic Chemistry focused) For Current Gilead Employees and Contractors: Please apply via the Internal Career Opportunities portal in Workday.
