Assistant Controller (Edmonton)

A growing Alberta-based organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their finance leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys leading teams, improving processes, and supporting a fast-paced operational business. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role will oversee day-to-day accounting operations across Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Corporate Accounting while helping strengthen financial processes as the company continues to grow. This is a fully onsite position in West Edmonton. What You’ll Be Doing - Lead and support supervisors across Payroll, AP, and AR functions - Partner with the Controller on month-end close, financial reporting, and operational accounting oversight - Review reconciliations, journal entries, reporting packages, and period-end deliverables - Oversee fixed assets, debt schedules, and the chart of accounts governance - Review GST/HST/PST filings and support regulatory compliance activities - Coordinate year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors and advisors - Support CRA correspondence and compliance matters - Review vendor credit applications and support internal policy adherence - Work closely with operations teams to resolve accounting and transactional issues - Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and reporting efficiencies - Support the development of internal controls, policies, and procedures What We’re Looking For - CPA designation completed or in progress required - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience - Strong background in full-cycle accounting and month-end close - Experience leading teams within AP, AR, Payroll, or corporate accounting environments - Strong understanding of internal controls, financial processes, and operational accounting - Experience within construction, industrial, project-based, or heavy operational environments is considered an asset - Job costing experience is highly valued At Aplin — together with our brands CompuStaff, Impact Recruitment, and Vantix Systems — we connect great people with great organizations across North America.
