Position Summary: We are looking for a full-time Funeral Attendant/Funeral Director Apprentice for our Edmonton location who will assist and support the arrangement process and service set up and delivery in collaboration with the Funeral Managers and Directors. The incumbent will work in a team environment that is committed to serving families with compassion and sincerity. This position prioritizes meeting the needs of the families Park Memorial serves with professionalism and excellent customer service skills. Upon starting the apprenticeship placement, the incumbent will work closely with Funeral Directors to shadow and learn arrangements, embalming techniques, and general duties aligned with the associated Funeral Director/Embalming education. Responsibilities: Arrangements/Services: - Assist with funerals, visitations and other services (before, during, and after) at all Park Memorial locations. - Complete errands associated with preparation for services. - Assist with dressing and casketing of deceased as needed. - Receive and arrange floral tributes. - Drive the funeral coach, and families and pallbearers in limousines. - Offer assistance to funeral attendees as they enter/exit. - Distribute memorial cards and provide direction regarding guest book, handouts, or other displays. - Guide and direct funeral attendees to parlour or chapel. - Assist pallbearers and/or act in the capacity of a pallbearer when needed - Transport flowers and other items to service venue and other locations as needed. - Provide assistance at the cemetery as needed. General Funeral Home Support: - Conduct transfers from different facilities to the funeral home (must have strength and ability to lift). - Store and maintain funeral equipment (mats, lowering devices, etc.). - Ensure presentability of limousines, coaches, and other Park Memorial vehicles. - Daily inspections of vehicles and reporting all vehicle damages. - Run general errands as requested. - Other duties as needed. Upon Apprenticeship Placement: - Shadow arrangement meetings with families of the deceased to discuss funeral arrangements and requests. - Ensure families are supported though the funeral process. - Arrange for the preparation and transportation of the deceased. - Shadow embalming procedures, including dressings and cosmetology. - Advise families and loved ones on burial and cremation options. - Explain pricing and product information for caskets and flowers to family and friends. - Order necessities for funeral and memorial services. - Complete all paperwork such as death certificates and permits in a timely manner. - Comply with all provincial regulations regarding funeral practices and health & safety standards. - Provide resources for additional supports available for grieving families. - Maintain accurate records and documents. Qualifications: - Highschool diploma. - Pursuing or completed Funeral Service Diploma - 1-2 Years in a Customer Service/ Care Industry - Experience in a Funeral Home is considered an asset - Valid driver’s license with a full, non-GDL level license, and a explicit drivers abstract. - Clear Police Information Check will be required.
