Volunteer Coordinator - Canada Summer Jobs 2026 Community Engagement Full Time Edmonton $17 CAD per hour

About the Role As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting and strengthening IslamicFamily's volunteer program. You will assist with recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and supporting volunteers across multiple programs. This position will help build a sense of community, improve program delivery, and ensure volunteers have a meaningful and enriching experience. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and passionate about empowering others through service.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program.
Duties&Responsibilities Daily Tasks
Respond to volunteer inquiries via phone and email
Greet and support volunteers on-site, ensuring they are oriented and well-equipped
Maintain and update volunteer schedules and records using tracking tools (e.g., spreadsheets, Notion)
Prepare and distribute volunteer materials, such as sign-in sheets, name tags, and instructions
Weekly Tasks
Conduct one-on-one check-ins with volunteers to ensure support and satisfaction
Organize and lead volunteer onboarding and orientation sessions
Coordinate and confirm volunteer placements for programs including the food bank, events, and workshops
Communicate with program leads to gather volunteer needs and placement requests
Track volunteer hours and feedback for ongoing reporting and improvement
Monthly Tasks
Assist with volunteer recognition efforts (e.g., spotlight stories, appreciation messages)
Contribute to a monthly volunteer updates
Prepare progress updates and reports for the Community Engagement team and supervisors
Participate in team meetings and contribute to strategic volunteer planning
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated interest or experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, community engagement, or administration
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to work with diverse communities
Ongoing or completed post-secondary education in nonprofit management, human resources, social sciences, or a related field preferred
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills
Ability to use spreadsheets, Google Workspace, and other organizational tools
A welcoming and supportive demeanor to help volunteers feel connected and appreciated
Those hired under CSJ must be between 15-30 years of age, and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (foreign students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada
