For more information go to our website at SUMMARY Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for someone who is ambitious, personable and passionately committed to true Indigenous Climate Justice to serve as its Communications Manager. This position requires a deep understanding of the intersectional approaches of climate justice and Indigenous rights and nurturing relationships with communities through various online platforms. ICA is seeking a Communications Manager to develop, organize and manage ICA communications and public relations internally and externally while maintaining online platforms.

The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and Engagement and works closely with the Engagement Manager, as well as overseeing and supervising communications coordinators. In addition, the Communications Manager will be required to develop communications plans for initiatives from other areas of ICA, including the Development and Funding team and the Programs and Education team.

The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:

Capacity for presenting complex information into accessible communications materials for both on-line and in-person publications

Experience with graphic design

Online communications and promotion

A strong understanding of social media algorithms

An understanding of social media analytics and statistics

Creative and inspiring methods of engagement

An ability to relay information that is accessible and approachable

An ability to oversee employees and contract workers

A comprehensive understanding working with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google Suite, Squarespace, and social media scheduling applications

Verbal and written communications

Ability to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision

Desire to efficiently work as a team player

Organizational, analytical, and time management

Field media and speaking opportunities with staff and steering committee

Public speaking

Climate justice and Indigenous peoples rights, cultures and histories

Environmental justice and practices of anti-oppression

Working independently and remotely

The Communication Manager’s duties are as follows:

Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Engagement to develop a strategic ICA communications plan with strategies for delegation

Hire and manage staff and contractors to support the goals and tactics of communications

Oversee and delegate communication work plans and strategies to communications team

Oversee ICA’s messaging and brand presentation across all online and traditional media platforms

Working with the engagement team to identify and develop contact lists with Indigenous communities, nations, donors, and settler allies for strategic communications

Maintain communication with a broad spectrum of climate and environmental justice websites, newsletters, listserves, etc.

Supporting strategies to nurture and engage with ICA’s social media followers

Supporting strategies to nurture traditional media partnerships and engagement strategies

Create and maintain positive partnership relationships

Oversee the creation and design of ICA’s reports, including annual reports and other public reports

Working closely with the Inform and Connect pod to sSupporting strategies creation of promotional materials including graphics, video content, newsletters, fundraising campaigns, website copy and other materials as needed

Supporting the development and promotion of ICA newsletter, blogs and videos

Create templates, processes and nurture best practices for collaborative communications development. Including but not limited to working with other Managers on plans for skills sharing, building capacity across the ICA team.

Oversee and support ICA Brand Management to ensure consistency and integrity across ICA communications

Working with other ICA Managers to support overall health and well-being for ICA team.

Working with other Pod Managers to develop strategies for more alignment and collaboration between team members.

Collaborate with ICA Directors and report to the Steering Committee’s needs for communications when required

Other assigned duties

Qualifications

Post Secondary education in communications or other related fields an asset

5 years of communications coordination and planning experience

Experience with graphic design and creation of effective communications materials

Experience overseeing staff and contractors

Broad based knowledge of climate and environmental websites, social media sites, newsletters, listserves etc.

Proven success with social media campaigns and website development

Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language an asset

Having a working computer and strong internet access is essential for this position

This is a remote, work from home, online working position with priority given to Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada.The position is full time and entails a 35 hour work week, however as per ICA’s Four Day work week policy we strive to work 30 hours per week most weeks. Regular travel and some evening/ weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations.

START DATE For Position: January 2026 (flexible)
