Description
You will have a dual role as you learn the fire protection trade from both the design and installation sides. You will begin your career as a fire sprinkler system installer trades apprentice, but once you have mastered the trade, you will move into an office role. Your trades apprenticeship and your design training will overlap so that you can receive your APEGA P-Eng stamp soon after you move into an office role fulltime. This opportunity is only available to people who completed their mechanical engineering degree in Canada. This is a permanent full-time position, so it is not not available to co-op students or other short term job seekers. Mechanical E.I.T. pay scale: 1st year rate = $30/hour + vacation and stat pay 2nd year rate = $30/hour + vacation and stat pay 3rd year rate = $35/hour + vacation and stat pay 4th year rate = $40/hour + vacation and stat pay Journeyperson rate = $50/hour + vacation and stat pay Benefits after 6 months Mostly in town Edmonton and area work, but we do work throughout Western Canada. you get an extra $10/hour live out allowance when working out of town, plus we pay for your hotel room, and you get paid for drive time. Must haves: - Valid driver's license - Own reliable vehicle for getting to and from jobsites when working in town (for out-of-town projects we provide the transportation) - High school transcript showing all classes taken, and grades in each one (you can get this in the form of an "unofficial transcript" for free online in Alberta. Call the high school you graduated from for details, or just google it.) - University transcript showing all classes taken, and grades in each one - A scanned copy of your degree - Past employment references The field work side of this job involves installing, servicing, and maintaining piping systems in recent and existing buildings. These piping systems are used for fire protection purposes. During your 4-year apprenticeship, you will be working with a red seal journeyman tradesperson who will teach you how to do the job while you assist them with their installations. There are 3 levels of schooling, 8 weeks in duration each, that you will attend after accumulating the required amount of work hours to enroll. It will take about 4 years to get up to $150,000/year. Please keep in mind that this position does involve years of hard physical labor, and lots of out-of-town work. You will be treated no differently than any other apprentice. Once you’ve completed the 4-year apprenticeship and are fully capable of installing the sprinkler systems, and all that entails, you will move into an office role. Designing, estimating, project management, etc., and getting your P-Eng stamp with APEGA.
