HSE Advisor (Mid to Senior Level)
Location: Edmonton Region (reports to VP, HSE – Calgary)
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mid to Senior Level HSE Advisor to serve as the primary Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) representative for our Edmonton region. This role reports directly to the VP, HSE, based in Calgary, and works closely with operational teams to drive strong safety performance across underground utility infrastructure projects.
This position is ideal for an experienced HSE professional who understands legislation and compliance requirements but also brings a pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset. You will be expected to influence, collaborate, and guide operational teams while ensuring safety expectations and regulatory obligations are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary HSE voice and advisor for the Edmonton region
- Partner closely with operations to support safe, efficient, and compliant project execution
- Interpret and apply OHS and safety legislation, company standards, and industry best practices
- Provide guidance on risk identification, hazard assessments, and incident prevention
- Support incident investigations and corrective action development
- Assist with safety planning, audits, inspections, and field-level coaching
- Influence positive safety behaviours while recognizing real-world operational considerations
- Ensure compliance while navigating the "grey areas" common in construction environments
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years of HSE experience, preferably within underground utility infrastructure or civil construction
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and safety requirements
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization
- Practical, solutions-driven approach to safety management
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a regional leadership team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 annually
