Overview Stantec is a leading design firm focused on clean energy solutions across North America. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer‑in‑Training to join our Energy team in western Canada, where you will work on HV/EHV substation projects and gain hands‑on experience in engineering design under the supervision of senior engineers. Your Opportunity As part of the Stations Electrical Design team, you will assist in performing engineering studies and detailed design of substations, contributing to project delivery across North America. Key Responsibilities - Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, transformer rating verification, cable ampacity, busbar design, and lighting. - Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plans and details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, and design calculations. - Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, testing, and commissioning. - Provide technical support for procurement, construction, and commissioning. - Assist in preparing proposals, project plans, and estimates. - Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve technical challenges. - Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high‑quality engineering service to clients. - Conduct site visits to verify existing installations, define project scope, and prepare for detailed design. - Draft project documents as required to complete deliverables. Capabilities & Credentials - Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, or MathCAD is an asset. - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, and Inventor. - Preliminary knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and industry standards such as IEEE and CSA. - Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. - Self‑motivated, team‑oriented, and highly organized with strong time‑management skills. - Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and process‑optimization initiatives. - Valid driver’s license. Education & Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. - Eligible for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or an equivalent body. - 0–6 years of relevant experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred). Office Location & Schedule - Typical office workplace with computer work. - Flexible hybrid work model, combining office and home work. - Field work may involve exposure to inclement weather. - Potential locations: Vancouver, Yukon, Edmonton, Calgary. Pay Range - Locations in Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa, Ontario: $78,900.00 – $114,400.00 annually. Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided where required. The final agreed compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus‑eligible. Part‑time compensation will be pro‑rated based on hours worked.
