Description
NAIT is seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician Instructor to train students in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy vehicles and industrial equipment. The instructor will motivate learners, support academic achievement, and deliver adult education in a postsecondary or skills‑based learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom, laboratory, and industry settings.
Participate in curriculum development, program reviews, and course reviews.
Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials.
Manage instructional delivery and set the tone for a safe and effective learning environment.
Create assessment tools to evaluate the learning process and maintain progress records.
Provide ongoing coaching and tutoring for students to maximize success and retention and respond to student issues.
Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications, and program promotions.
Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students, colleagues, and industry partners.
Use student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvements.
Improve instruction quality through professional development activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills&Abilities
Collaborative team player who contributes positively to the academic team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a respectful, supportive, and effective approach.
Ability to manage competing priorities and support multiple tasks in a fast‑paced academic environment.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills to meet deadlines and contribute to process improvement.
Qualifications
High School Diploma.
Completion of Heavy Equipment Journeyperson ticket or provincial equivalent (required).
Inter‑Provincial Red Seal (preferred).
Minimum 5 years of recent industry experience after obtaining the Journeyperson ticket.
Additional relevant post‑secondary education or professional development training (asset).
Teaching experience (asset).
Remuneration: $69,189.78 - $120,361.23 plus a comprehensive benefits package. Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and part‑time positions are prorated based on FTE.
