Position Overview Function as part of a safety critical site with a robust commitment to safety awareness and risk management. Report to work fit for duty and positively contribute to an environmentally sound manufacturing team. Comply with all policies, procedures, and rules. Participate in site safety committee. Complete timely SAP entries for production and product control. Monitor and record process run data and monitor QC data to ensure production is within specification. Manage and develop direct reports in order to establish and maintain acceptable standards of performance in the key factors of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Employee Development, Product Protection and Productivity. In the event of an after-hour incident, the Supervisor assumes the role of Incident Commander. The Supervisor is responsible for identifying and ensuring the mitigation of maintenance issues as they arise. This position utilizes office and computer components while maintaining a floor-level presence to ensure the timely resolution of issues that could affect safety or production. The Supervisor must demonstrate strong communication and alignment of all operations vertically, horizontally, and downwards to set job, safety, and quality expectations.
Job Responsibilities SAFETY
Be a driver of proactive safety behavior through leading by example and holding employees accountable for unsafe practices.
Lead comprehensive and interactive crew safety meetings that target and identify safety hazards. Follow-up and investigate issues and safety concerns.
Active member of the Plant Safety Committee.
Initiate and lead safety/incident investigations as required.
Lead/Investigate/Close - minor to medium GenSuite concern reports submitted for assigned areas. Elevate major concerns to EHS Leader and Production Superintendent.
In the event of an after-hour incident assumes the role of Incident Commander.
Develop and ensure compliance to various permits, CSE, LOTO and flush plans.
ENVIRONMENT
Understand plant environmental regulatory requirements, including the Hexion Operating
Approval and lead by example to ensure compliance.
Ensure all spills are reported, lead investigations, and develop corrective actions.
Actively promote good waste management practices.
Hold employees accountable for environmental infractions and/or failures to report incidents.
Actively participate in Emergency Response Drills and ensure good understanding of emergency response procedures.
PEOPLE
Responsible and accountable for leading a group of hourly associates on a rotating shift in multiple departments through the execution of production tasks. He/she investigates and resolves all day to day production issues within Operations. The Supervisor elevates issues and concerns to the Production Superintendent as necessary.
Ensures hourly reports complete all defined documentation and perform thorough cross shift communications.
Schedules people and assigns personnel to meet the daily production schedule. The Supervisor schedules operators to cover the shifts needed to meet production demands.
Completes competency reviews when employees finish training and conducts performance reviews on hourly reports on an annual basis. The Supervisor provides input and guidance on the development/goals of operators and other production personnel through coaching and written feedback.
Responsible for effectively and efficiently managing personnel through overtime and shift scheduling.
Leads engaged crew meetings to ensure teamwork and group alignment.
Demonstrates strong communication and alignment of all operations vertically, horizontally, and downwards to set job, safety, and quality expectations.
Manages and corrects behaviors by coaching and providing feedback to the associate and escalating concerns to the Production Superintendent if formal corrective action is required.
Communicates with senior management and subordinates regarding operational issues, changes, recommendations, etc.
Ensures Site policies and procedures are adhered to.
Oversees and ensures compliance of their crew with all training requirements.
Oversees the Progression Training program for their crew.
PRODUCTION
Maintaining production and shipping of quality products that meet customer standards. Manage out of specification material by coordinating with author, shipping, production superintendent and QA lead along with appropriate documentation (T-changes/T-blends). Ensure that the team performs the necessary SAP transactions, enters correct information, timely closes out PI sheets and MES orders correctly and completely, and executes rework documentation and material actions correctly.
Understand the ISO 9001 system and ensure hourly reports maintain conformance to all the system requirements.
Ensure all process areas and equipment are maintained in clean and safe conditions to provide the team with an organized workplace and proper tools. Lead/Own 5S initiatives for the area and support 5S initiatives for the site.
Champion continuous improvements by constructively, and professionally, challenging quality, safety, and production systems.
Responsible for troubleshooting processes and equipment. Performing problem-solving to develop corrective actions for customer issues or to initiate continuous improvement.
Innovatively approach problem solving through team engagement to determine effective solutions.
Ensure that all standard operating procedures, PI sheets and MES order instructions are clearly understood and followed by hourly reports.
Proactively identify maintenance issues and ensure that accurate work notifications are entered into SAP. Work with maintenance leader to ensure equipment repair needs are properly identified and prioritized using the work order system.
Ensure equipment is properly prepared with timely and complete Lock Out Tag Outs (LOTOs).
Release preventative maintenance orders (PM’s) from SAP. Print and distribute to operating areas.
Independently develop, or support the development of, efficient procedures and systems that ensure business needs will be met.
PLANT CROSS FUNCTIONALLY
Develop effective and positive working relationships within the plant, Manufacturing colleagues, as well as with business partners in other areas of the company (Finance, HR, Sales and Marketing, R&D, and Resources).
In addition to plant production, the Supervisor functions as a key liaison with all departments (Resin, HCHO, Logistics, Supply Chain, Maintenance, EH&S, QA, R&D).
Communicate consistently and effectively to ensure continuity of production goals and execution between departments and shifts. Complete defined reports and maintain KPIs as required.
Work with Production Scheduler and ensure inventory processes are executed as required.
Performance and Results Orientation – Maintains focus on key performance drivers, continuously improves processes, and consistently delivers results.
Meet Commercial/Customer service requirements by projecting the workload of equipment and resources and adjusting as required to individual job tasks. Addresses customer complaints.
Support or lead quality investigations. Complete NCRs (nonconformance reports) as assigned and ensure their completion in a timely manner.
Resolve quality issues through collaboration with offsite Scheduling, Commercial and R&D personnel.
As the management representative on off shifts provide direction for the Site within prescribed boundaries. Solicit additional resources when required and provide clear communication to senior Site management during nonstandard events.
In the event of an off‑shift incident (safety, environmental or process) provide the initial emergency response leadership (i.e. act as the Incident Commander). During off-hours & turnarounds, the Supervisor has overall responsibility for the site, including decision‑making and providing direction in emergencies.
