Position Summary

Worley Canada Construction is currently seeking Material Handlers to support field execution on project sites across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of day-to-day material handling activities on site.

This role performs the physical receiving, inspection, movement, storage, and delivery of materials to support construction activities. The Material Handler ensures materials are properly identified, documented, and handled in accordance with project requirements. Working under the direction of the Lead Material Handler and in coordination with the Materials Controller, this role is critical to ensuring materials are safely managed and available to support construction execution.

Work Conditions

  • Site-based role on a project site across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Shift / Schedule dependent on project assignment
  • Living Out Allowance, travel, or camp may be applicable, dependent on project assignment
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation required

Reporting & Interfaces

  • Reports functionally to the Materials Management leadership structure
  • Assigned to a project, and reports operationally to the applicable Lead Material Handler or designated site supervision.
  • Frequently interfaces with:
  • Lead Material Handler
  • Material Controller
  • Construction (supervision & crews)
  • Quality (as required for additional inspection)
  • Interface expectations:
  • Accurately executes physical receiving and verification at time of receipt
  • Ensures all discrepancies are clearly identified and digitally recorded for escalation
  • Maintains alignment between physical material, system records, and project requirements
  • Communicates material issues clearly and promptly to supervision

Key Accountability Areas

Safety & Safe Work Practices

  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-job discussions
  • Complete and follow Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) prior to performing work
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with site safety rules, procedures, and approved safe work practices
  • Use required PPE, tools, and equipment properly at all times
  • Immediately report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents

Material Receiving & Inspection (Execution)

  • Escort deliveries onto site and support driver orientation and load acceptance processes
  • Complete load assessments and assist with safe unloading of materials
  • Perform physical inspection of materials for unacceptable, overage, shortage, and damaged conditions (UOSD)
  • Accurately record and document discrepancies, including marking packing slips and capturing supporting information (e.g., photos)
  • Create and initiate UOSD records in accordance with project procedures
  • Execute material receipt transactions in the material management system (e.g., SiteSense) as directed

Material Handling & Movement

  • Receive, unload, and move materials safely within laydown and storage areas
  • Pick, stage, and deliver materials to workfaces in accordance with planned construction requirements
  • Coordinate material movements with the Lead Material Handler and site priorities
  • Support handling of oversized, heavy, or sensitive materials using approved methods

Storage, Identification & Traceability

  • Store materials in designated laydown and storage areas in accordance with site plans
  • Ensure materials are properly marked, tagged, and identifiable at all times
  • Verify & confirm physical heat numbers received align with system pre-entry, if applicable
  • Maintain clear separation and organization of materials to support traceability and retrieval
  • Execute standard preservation activities and support complex preservation activities as required to maintain material condition
  • Maintain accurate physical tracking of material locations

Systems & Documentation

  • Use tablets or digital systems to support receiving, tracking, and material movement activities
  • Accurately capture and record receiving information, including supporting documentation
  • Ensure packing slips and documentation are complete and submitted in accordance with procedures
  • Support the Materials Controller by ensuring physical transactions and documentation are complete and accurate

This role is:

  • Responsible for the physical execution of material receiving, handling, storage, and delivery
  • Accountable for identifying and recording material discrepancies (OS&D/UOSD) at time of receipt
  • A key contributor to safe and efficient material flow on the project
  • An active participant in ensuring materials are properly identified, stored, and traceable
  • A hands-on field role requiring safe work practices and attention to detail

This role is not:

  • Responsible for system control, data integrity, or overall materials coordination
  • Accountable for resolving material discrepancies—issues are escalated through the Materials Controller
  • Responsible for construction sequencing or prioritization decisions
  • A purely administrative role—this is a physical, field-based position
  • A supervisory role (direction is provided by the Lead Material Handler and Materials leadership

  • Safe execution of all material handling activities
  • Accurate identification and documentation of material discrepancies
  • Organized and traceable material storage and laydown areas
  • Timely and efficient movement of materials to support construction
  • Strong alignment with Lead Material Handler direction and project priorities

Experience & Attribute Profile

Experience

  • 3–5 years' experience in construction material handling or receiving
  • Trade certification or background is an asset
  • Experience working in industrial construction environments is preferred
  • Familiarity with material handling processes, documentation, and receiving practices
  • Experience using digital tools or tablets for material tracking is an asset
  • Equipment operation experience (e.g., forklift, telehandler) is an asset
  • Ability to work safely in active construction and outdoor environments
