Alberta, Canada Job Overview
The Major Maintenance Planner role is to enable efficient execution of work by developing detailed work plans for high‑complexity maintenance work scopes—including boiler repairs, furnace decokes, exchanger cleaning, exchanger bundle replacements, pond cleaning/inspection/repairs, pipeline inspection digs, and more. The role also supports planning of unplanned, short‑duration outage scopes.Key Responsibilities
Identifies task description, required resources, materials, services, tools, duration, and cost estimate of each task, and provides guidance for efficient and effective scheduling and execution. Assesses and obtains input from engineering, maintenance technicians and operations when evaluating the initial scope of work.Validates job scope by performing job site visits with applicable technical disciplines and execution peers. Gathers input from Major Maintenance Execution peers in the development of executable plans, including HSE, logistics, and materials management as required. Engages engineering and specialist disciplines when ordering engineering items to ensure proper change‑management protocol is used and the correct material is specified.Communicates the estimated completion time for high‑priority and time‑sensitive jobs to the Major Maintenance Supervisor, readjusting the work plan as necessary to meet business and/or operational requirements. Discovers ways to optimize planning through bundling work, combined events, and coordinated effort.Facilitates stakeholder meetings to review work scope in order to improve the quality of the plan and work pack. Collaborates with Contracts and Procurement to ensure materials, equipment, and outside vendors/contractors are procured. Compiles necessary documents (e-package) needed for field execution—reference documents such as equipment manuals, drawings, procedures as per planning practice.Collects feedback from field executors and/or conducts lookback/lessons‑learned engagements to improve the quality of the work pack—level of detail, accuracy of plans, actual hours to complete tasks. Embeds learning in library plans and task lists. May be required to fill a reserve worker role.Key Challenges
Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external key stakeholders—technical disciplines, Major Maintenance Supervisor, Major Maintenance Field Leads, Contracts&Procurement, external vendors, etc. Balancing and delivering to site evolving priorities. Qualifications
Legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis. Technologist or Journeyman. Minimum five years of planning experience in upgrading, refining or other heavy industry. Experience with Computerized Materials Management Systems (GSAP/Blueprint). Proficiency with Primavera P6. Ability to pull groups together and coordinate action plans to drive resolution.Capacity to manage evolving priorities and deliver on multiple commitments in a timely manner. Demonstrated leadership, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Self‑driven, proactive approach to evolving priorities. Benefits
