The Police Service In March 2023, the City of Grande Prairie made history by establishing the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS), the first new municipal police service in Alberta since 1956. The GPPS is dedicated to creating a modern, professional, ethical, equitable, and locally accountable police service that significantly enhances public safety within our community. With a team of over 225 professionals—including police officers, peace officers, outreach workers, social workers, nurses, and civilian staff—the GPPS is positioned to deliver comprehensive public safety services.

The Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) is a progressive and community-focused police service committed to excellence in public safety. We are seeking experienced police officers to play a key role in the establishment and growth of our new service. We are looking for individuals who can help us elevate ourselves to provide high-quality policing response to support the vibrant growing community of Grande Prairie.
Required Qualifications
Have been or are currently a sworn police officer with a Canadian law enforcement agency
Have been a police officer within one year of application if they have less than five years of previous police experience; or
Have been a police officer within two years of application if they have five or more years of previous police experience
Have a minimum of 18 months' continuous police service, inclusive of basic recruit training
Responsibilities
Enforce laws to maintain public safety
Engage with the community through proactive community policing initiatives
Conduct thorough investigations and gather evidence for criminal cases
Respond effectively to emergencies, traffic incidents, and criminal activities
Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to address regional issues
Provide mentorship and guidance to new recruits
Monitor and manage performance of staff, by assessing individual performance, capabilities and development needs
Enforces policies and procedures
Investigating complex files
