Department/Unit VPRI Office Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada About the opportunity Reporting to the Vice‑President Research & Innovation, the Associate Vice‑President Research (Research Facilities & Infrastructure) is a FTE, three‑year term, senior academic leadership role responsible for providing strategic academic direction for Dalhousie’s research infrastructure, facilities, platforms, and digital research capacity. The AVPR leads academic strategy related to major infrastructure initiatives, including CFI competitiveness, core facilities, shared platforms, and digital research capacity, ensuring alignment with institutional research priorities. The AVPR also leads institution‑wide initiatives assigned by the VPRI that require cross‑faculty collaboration, and long‑term strategic perspective. Key Responsibilities - Provide academic leadership for institutional research infrastructure strategy, including CFI competitiveness, major infrastructure investments, and the prioritization and sustainability of shared research facilities and platforms. - Provide governance and strategic leadership for core facilities, including oversight of steering and advisory committees, and direction on service models and access. - University‐wide oversight of technical and analytical service delivery. - Contribute academic leadership to digital research capacity, research computing, and data infrastructure initiatives. - Lead major VPRI assigned initiatives that require academic leadership, cross‑faculty collaboration, and institutional coordination. - Serve as Vice‑Chair of the Research Integrity Committee. The ideal candidate is a respected scholar with experience navigating complex research environments and a strong appreciation for the role of infrastructure in enabling research excellence. They are a cooperative leader who combines academic credibility with strategic foresight and a service‑oriented approach. They are known for building constructive relationships across disciplines and for advancing shared solutions that support institutional research priorities. Required Qualifications - An established record of scholarly achievement and research impact appropriate for a senior academic leadership role. - Demonstrated experience in academic administration or research leadership, including strategic planning and program development. - Strong understanding of the Canadian research funding ecosystem and infrastructure funding programs, including CFI. - Experience working with shared research facilities, platforms, or large‑scale research infrastructure. - Ability to lead complex, cross‑faculty initiatives requiring consultation, prioritization, and consensus‑building. - Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. - Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the capacity to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and external partners. Assets - Experience with major infrastructure proposals or large‑scale facility development. - Familiarity with research computing, digital research platforms, or data‑intensive research environments. - Experience serving on infrastructure or facilities governance committees. - Demonstrated success leading cross‑faculty or institution‑wide academic initiatives. - A record of interdisciplinary research or cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
