SimpsonWigle LAW LLP is currently seeking to hire a Litigation Law Clerk who will support all litigation and construction lawyers as well as articling students. The role will be responsible for performing a variety of routine legal and administrative duties while coordinating and assisting litigation and construction lawyers with complex matters. In addition, the position will be responsible for aspects of litigation and construction matters from start to finish. This function has billable targets with billing cycle requirements and must docket as per docketing policy. . The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to: · Assisting with trial preparation including Trial Records, Evidence Notices, Requests to Admit, Joint Documents Briefs, Witness Lists and related Briefs; · Preparation of Application/Motion materials, including Record, Facta, Authorities Briefs; · Preparation of default judgment documents and trial forms from the various jurisdictions; · Preparation of Costs Outlines/Bill of Costs; · Organizing client documentary disclosure and preparation of Affidavit of Documents and Production Books, utilizing Case Logistix when appropriate; · Attend discoveries as requested; · Other duties and tasks as assigned . Required experience/qualifications: · Law Clerk Diploma/Certificate · Minimum of 5 years experience preferably in Commercial Litigation · A solid knowledge of legal office practice, legal terminology and procedure relating to legal correspondence and legal documents and understanding of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure · Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy · Exhibit excellent commitment to client service and the maintenance of client confidentiality · Team play with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills · Strong organizational skills and file management skills, resourceful and capable of working independently · Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment and confidentiality · Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel and Outlook) · Functional expertise in the use of Automated Civil Litigation (ACL) and experience with Case Logistix · Experience with GhostPractice and iManage would be an asset . Work Hours and Location –Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm primarily based out of our Hamilton offices. .
