Join Our Team as a Senior Automations Controls Engineer at Johnson Electric! Location: Ancaster, ON, Canada (onsite) Salary Range: 90,000 - 110,000 CAD annually Vacancy Type: Existing position Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It: In this role, you will serve as a hands‑on Controls Senior Controls Engineer, responsible for the programming, commissioning, and support of automated production and test equipment. You will work closely with Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Project teams to bring automation projects from concept through startup while acting as a technical go‑to for controls‑related topics. Note: This role does not have direct people‑management accountability and remains primarily hands‑on in nature. This role is ideal for a controls professional who enjoys remaining deeply technical while providing day‑to‑day guidance, mentoring and coordination for a small team of Controls Specialists. What You’ll Be Doing: Programming, debugging, commissioning, and supporting automated production and test equipment. PLC, HMI, robot, vision, motion, and safety controller programming. Electrical troubleshooting and support for automation equipment. Supporting new equipment build, installation, and run‑at‑rate validation. Participating in design reviews and project progress meetings. Providing technical guidance and mentoring to Controls Specialists. Supporting standardization of controls hardware, software, and networks. Collaborating with Manufacturing and Program teams to meet project schedules. Maintaining equipment documentation and controls standards. Occasional travel to other Johnson Electric facilities as required. What We’re Looking For: Engineering degree. Experience mentoring a small team. 5+ years hands‑on experience in an industrial automation / controls environment. Strong, hands‑on experience with PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley and/or Omron) and industrial robot programming (Fanuc, Yaskawa, or KUKA). Practical knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, controls networks (Ether Net/IP, EtherCAT, etc.). Experience supporting automated assembly lines, robotic cells, and manufacturing or test equipment. Ability to work onsite and support equipment commissioning activities. Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally. Johnson Electric welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
