3rd Class Power Engineer - Reports to: Area Manager - Operations. Job Type: Permanent. Location: Hamilton, ON. Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000. This is an existing vacancy. Protected production is a core value of our organization. All work must be performed in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines, including the mandatory use of company-issued personal protective equipment such as hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame-resistant clothing, and safety footwear with metatarsal protection throughout the work shift. Your day-to-day - Operate and maintain low and high pressure steam systems - Operate and maintain environmental control equipment - Operate equipment to support various production units including turbines, pumps, compressors, turbo alternators, cooling towers, water treatment systems, gas systems, and HVAC equipment - Perform chemical analysis on process water and adjust systems to maintain operations, including handling of reagents, chemicals, and chemical injection equipment - Operate and maintain gas testing equipment and participate in the issuance of Confined Space Entry Permits - Provide isolation, lockouts, clearances and safe work permits on utilities systems and process equipment - Assist in the development of energy control procedures and safe work practices - Assist with maintenance planning and repair of equipment - Operate in accordance with all applicable procedures, policies, and regulations Job Qualifications - TSSA 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certificate - Minimum of 2-year experience in an industrial environment Job Skills and Knowledge - Temperature tolerance: ability to withstand extreme temperatures - Reaction time: ability to quickly respond to process upsets - Static strength: ability to exert significant muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects - Trunk strength: ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support the body repeatedly or continuously over time, including bending and stooping - Dynamic strength: ability to exert muscle force at intervals throughout a work shift; muscular endurance and resistance to fatigue - Agility: ability to negotiate different areas of the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, and moving around barriers - Manual dexterity: ability to quickly move and react Your work environment - Job is in a heavy industrial environment; may be required to work in various areas of the facility with hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy conditions - Safety is the highest priority; procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times, including always wearing personal protective equipment such as a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame-retardant clothing and safety shoes with metatarsal protection during the work shift - Employees work in a unionized, highly industrial setting - Hamilton facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year with varying hours of work, including 8- and 12-hour rotating shifts; may be required to work different days each rotation, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays - Position requires work overtime as needed - Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to operations and overall team environment In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Stelco is an equal opportunity employer who is committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free recruitment and selection process.
