Position Overview The Inpatient Medical Services Team provides comprehensive acute and chronic medical care for all inpatients at West 5th Campus. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide evidence‑informed integrated medical care to mental health and addiction program inpatients, working autonomously with physicians and interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities - Complete patient health histories and physical examinations. - Provide acute and chronic disease management throughout admission. - Perform controlled acts and autonomous practice per RN‑EC and NP credential. - Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team, patients/families for integrated care. - Advise on and consult on complex cases involving mental illness and addiction. - Maintain compliance with College of Nurses of Ontario standards, RNAO best practice guidelines, and St. Joseph’s Healthcare policies. - Perform clinical research, scholarship, and knowledge translation. - Manage data evaluation, interpretation, and process change to improve quality of care. - Maintain effective collegial relationships, teamwork, conflict resolution, and workplace safety. Qualifications - Registered Nurse – Extended Class (RN‑EC) with NP‑Primary Health Care (NP‑PHC) and Adult specialty certificate. - Master’s degree in nursing. - Current BCLS certification. - At least three years recent demonstrated experience as an NP. - Three years recent clinical nursing experience in acute or primary care required. - Proof of successful completion of controlled substances education. - Demonstrated self‑directed decision‑making and problem‑solving skills. - Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and ethical responsibilities regarding scope of practice. - Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. - Demonstrated conflict management/resolution skills. - Demonstrated scholarly inquiry, knowledge translation, and effective research skills. - Demonstrated proficient computer skills (Clinical Connect, MS Office, EPIC, etc.). - Demonstrated data management skills for evaluation, interpretation, and process change. - Demonstrated positive attendance record. - Faculty appointment or eligibility to be appointed with a School of Nursing in an academic institution (preferred). - RNAO, NPAO, CNA membership preferred. - CNA certificate in mental health preferred.
