The Summit Grill (Best Western Plus Valemount) is looking for an experienced permanent part‑time Cook / Line Cook to join our amazing team. Expect 25 hours per week, increasing as the season gets busier. The successful candidate will be part of an experienced kitchen team and work with exceptional seasonal products.
Valemount, BC is a small town located in the beautiful Robson Valley, just one hour across the Alberta border via Hwy 16 and Hwy 5. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will prepare and cook various dishes for restaurant and lounge guests as well as assist with preparing, cooking and presenting dishes for special guests, functions and events. You will ensure high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety. As part of an experienced kitchen team, you will also assist with developing new dishes and menus.
Responsibilities Food Preparation
Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.)
Prepare food items according to recipe
Cooking
Cook food in various utensils or grillers
Check food while cooking to stir or turn
Grilling, sautéing, baking, frying, boiling and other techniques
Ensure food is cooked to appropriate temperature and level of doneness
Recipe Adherence and Menu Development
Follow recipes according to guidelines or adapt as needed for special dietary needs
Plate Presentation
Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
Quality Control
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
Check quality of ingredients
Monitor and manage cooking tools and ingredients
Follow instructions in cooking, delivering, and presenting well‑prepared meals
Sanitation and Hygiene
May at times be asked to support the dishwasher
Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
Ensure high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety
Health and Safety
Follow all safety protocol in the kitchen
Wear PPE as required
Report any unsafe situations to prevent accidents or injury
Learning and Development Stay on top of trends and changes in the food and restaurant industry to better serve customers and develop new skills.
Collaboration and Communication
Take orders from the wait staff and prepare food according to customer preference
Make adjustments to accommodate clients with specific diet and health concerns
Communicate effectively in the kitchen among the team and with all serving staff
Maintain a positive, supportive attitude
Inventory Management
Assist with inventory management
Help track ingredients and advise when getting low
Time Management
Use time wisely in a fast‑paced kitchen. Take needed breaks.
Experience and Qualifications
Preferred at least 2 years of culinary experience in a fast‑paced kitchen
Excellent interpersonal skills and good communication skills in English
Ability to prioritize, organize and follow through as necessary
Must possess a passion for food and develop knowledge of all cooking methods
Food Safe certification is an asset
Leadership experience is an asset
