Job Overview We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Dental Assistant to support the delivery of essential dental services to inmates in a Correctional setting This role is part of a multi-disciplinary health services team within, working alongside dentists, nurses, physicians, psychologists, and other allied health professionals. Responsibilities - Prepare treatment and clinical areas for dental procedures. - Clean and sterilize instruments and handpieces according to provincial standards. - Assist the dentist using single and two-handed techniques. - Operate high-volume evacuators within the oral cavity. - Prepare restorative materials and perform basic lab procedures (e.g., pouring and trimming study models). - Monitor and maintain inventory of dental supplies and equipment. - Record patient data as directed by the dentist. - Educate inmates on oral health and appliance care. - Conduct spore/biological indicator tests and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets. - Provide First Aid and CPR in emergency situations. - Assist in maintaining emergency drug kits. - Obtain and record vital signs. Qualifications - Licensing: Must hold a current license in valuable standing with the appropriate provincial governing body for dental assistants in Ontario. - Experience: Minimum of 6 months of intra-oral dental assisting experience within the last 2 years. - Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a secure and structured environment. - Security Clearance: Must be eligible for Reliability Status clearance under the Government of Canada’s Contract Security Program. - Language: Fluent in English (oral and written).
