Description
Controller, Manufacturing 15–20% Bonus + Pension Match + Strong Benefits Kingston, ON | Hybrid (3 days onsite) The opportunity A global industrial group is hiring a Business Controller for one of its recently acquired Ontario manufacturing operations. Newly created role, reporting jointly to the Head of Finance and the General Manager. This is not a maintain-the-machine controller seat. It's a build-the-machine seat — inside a small manufacturing business, with the backing and resources of a multinational parent. If you've ever wanted ownership over a finance function from the ground up without the risk of doing it at a startup, this is that role. Why this role exists The business was acquired roughly 18 months ago and has operated largely stand-alone since. It's now being integrated into the parent's global finance framework. You'll be the finance lead on the ground — building the controls, processes, and reporting discipline that don't yet exist, while keeping the day-to-day running. What you'll actually be doing - Owning month-end close on a 3-day cycle, coordinating with a Central European time zone - Leading the September external audit — prep, documentation, and follow-through - Standing up internal controls, SOPs, and a risk and control matrix where little currently exists - Running FP&A;, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for the GM and operations leaders - Managing standard costs, job costing, inventory accuracy, and cycle counts in a manufacturing environment - Overseeing AP/AR (transactional processing is outsourced to an external accounting firm — you manage the relationship and the controls around it) - Acting as the bridge between local operations and the parent's finance Center of Excellence - Building reporting in Excel and Power BI; job costing currently lives heavily in Excel The systems reality The business runs on QuickBooks Online and the parent uses SAP, but this site is not migrating in the near term. You need to be genuinely strong in QBO — comfortable working around its control limitations, fixing what other users break, and building structure on top of a system that wasn't designed for what you'll be asking it to do. There is no internal QBO expert to lean on. What we need from you - CPA (or in final stages), with a finance/accounting degree - 5–7+ years in accounting, financial control, or business control roles - Hands-on QuickBooks Online experience is essential — not \"I've seen it,\" but \"I've owned it\" - Manufacturing industry experience, including job costing and inventory - Audit experience, ideally as the prep/lead contact - Strong Excel; working Power BI - IFRS familiarity - A track record of building or rebuilding processes in environments where things are loose - Located in or willing to commute to Kingston, ON 3 days per week The package - Base up to ~$130K depending on experience - Short-term incentive plan: ~15–20% target - Defined contribution pension with employer match - Benefits package that genuinely is solid — very low out-of-pocket - 12 weeks paid parental leave What will actually determine the hire Change management and pressure tolerance. The team here isn't hostile, but they've operated independently for two years and the integration work won't always be popular. We need someone who can drive change with respect — not steamroll, not avoid the hard conversations. If you've only worked in mature, controlled environments, this won't be the right move.
