Project Manager– Architecture Toronto, ON or Kitchener, ON $90,000-$140,000
City Build Recruitment is representing a nationally recognized, multi-disciplinary design firm seeking a Project Manager– Architecture to join their Ontario team. This is a senior-level opportunity for a technically strong, client-facing leader who thrives in complex, multi-disciplinary environments and is ready to take ownership of projects from concept through completion.
This role is ideal for a seasoned architect or architectural project manager who combines design sensitivity with strong delivery expertise, contract administration experience, and business development acumen.
Role Overview The Project Manager will lead architectural-prime and multi-disciplinary projects through all phases, including design development, documentation, tender, and construction administration. Acting as the primary client contact, this individual will represent the firm in all routine project matters and provide leadership to internal and external teams to ensure successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Technical Oversight
Lead the design and technical development of projects in collaboration with internal architecture and engineering teams
Manage drawing and specification production across all phases (SD, DD, Tender, IFC)
Coordinate sub-consultants and multi-disciplinary teams
Oversee submissions and approvals with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
Lead quality assurance processes and coordinate with the stamping architect
Support BIM, detailing, specification development, and technical mentorship across teams
Contract Administration
Administer CCDC contracts (including CCDC 2, 5A/B, 14, 30)
Lead construction phase communication, RFIs, submittals, change documentation, and site reviews
Review payment applications and issue certificates for payment
Prepare field reports, deficiency reviews, and substantial performance documentation
Financial and Operational Management
Develop and manage project schedules, staffing plans, and financial forecasting
Monitor percent complete and coordinate invoicing with accounting teams
Manage construction budgets in collaboration with quantity surveyors
Business Development
Support proposal development and fee preparation
Participate in client presentations and interviews
Maintain and strengthen client relationships while identifying future opportunities
Leadership and Mentorship
Lead internal project teams and align delivery with design intent and client objectives
Contribute to practice standards and integrated design culture
Mentor emerging professionals in design, technical, and project management areas
Opportunity to grow into a formal Team Lead role with performance management responsibilities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Architecture or related field
10+ years of architectural project management experience
Experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects
OAA licensure and/or PMP designation considered an asset
Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code and relevant Canadian standards
Demonstrated expertise in contract administration
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships
