The Preschooler Services Psychologist role supports our multidisciplinary teams in providing care to children and youth aged 2 to 21 years.

Position Summary Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the psychologist will work with multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient teams—Preschool Diagnostic&Treatment Services, Child&Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Program, Young Adult Program, and outpatient psychiatry clinic—to provide assessment, intervention, and education for children and youth.
Responsibilities
Evaluate and diagnose psychological disorders, including mental health conditions, cognitive functioning, and personality disorders.
Review complex and convergent data from multiple sources.
Plan, administer, and interpret psychological tests appropriate to the referral question.
Prepare written clinical assessment summaries and/or reporting of psychometric findings and diagnostic conclusions.
Actively engage in patient and family education initiatives to enhance coping and reduce distress.
Collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team with other health‑care providers, community services, and school board providers.
Participate, as needed, in clinical research design and provide advice on research, evaluation design, statistical analysis, and methodology.
Contribute to ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Position Requirements
Psychologist: Master’s degree in Psychology with four years of experience in the scope of practice, registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and, where applicable, other Canadian jurisdictions; OR Doctoral degree with a one‑year internship and registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Psychological Associate: Master’s degree in Psychology with four years of experience and registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Minimum two years of clinical experience with psychological assessment and diagnosis of children and youth up to age 21; experience with children ages 3‑6 is an asset.
Experience in acute‑care hospital‑based services preferred.
Competence in administering, scoring, and interpreting a wide range of standardized and non‑standardized testing instruments, including perceptive behavioral and/or test‑setting observations.
Proficiency in administering and interpreting autism‑specific measures such as the ADOS‑2 (Modules 1‑3) and ADIR; neuropsychological testing experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem‑solving abilities.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to Grand River Hospital Mental Health&Addiction Program recovery philosophy and comprehensive safety programs.
Good attendance record.
