Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Powertrain Controls Engineer – Senior to support the development of current and next-generation Electrified Powertrain Systems including HEV/BHEV architectures, Hybrid Torque Controls, High Voltage (27V) systems, and Battery Powertrain technologies.This role will work closely with Calibration Engineers and Integration Engineers to develop robust production control strategies focused on fuel economy, emissions, drivability, diagnostics, brake regeneration, and hybrid shift execution. Key Responsibilities - Develop and optimize Hybrid Torque Control strategies and tactical torque management algorithms - Support engine speed optimization, gear state management, and powertrain state controls - Model mechanical transmission systems and dynamic torque/speed relationships using lever analogy principles - Develop and validate control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink (MANDATORY) - Work within the V-model development process utilizing: - Vehicle testing /HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) /Dyno / Virtual validation / Rapid prototyping tools - Collaborate cross-functionally with Systems, Calibration, and Integration Engineering teams - Assess designs against functional and regulatory requirements - Mark up and maintain Simulink models to ensure operational and functional compliance - Validate production-ready designs and support implementation strategies - Track project timing, technical progress, and present updates to leadership and project chiefs - Participate in controls strategy decision-making to achieve vehicle-level functional objectives Required Qualifications - 5–8 years of experience in Powertrain Controls Engineering - Strong experience with Electrified Powertrains, Hybrid Systems, or Battery Powertrain Controls - Deep understanding of: - Hybrid Torque Controls / Engine Controls / Torque Equations / Mechanical System Simulation Tactical Optimization Strategies - Strong expertise in MATLAB/Simulink implementation (HIGHLY REQUIRED) - Experience with mechanical transmission system modeling and electro-mechanical controls - Hands-on experience with Vehicle, HIL, Dyno, and Virtual validation environments - Strong understanding of the V-model development lifecycle - Robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities in fast-paced engineering environments Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree preferred - PhD candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience considered - Mechanical Engineering background strongly preferred; Electrical/Electronics backgrounds also considered - Experience supporting future electrified propulsion systems and advanced hybrid controls - Relevant internship experience in hybrid/electrified powertrain controls is a plus Location: Windsor, ON (100% Onsite) Disclaimer: Kyyba is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
