Laboratory Assistant– LifeLabs Status: Part Time Regular Float

Schedule: Mondays to Saturdays, 2 days off (may not be consecutive)

Minimum 20 hours per week; must be available for full‑time hours. Travel from Cowichan to Langford required.

Union: BCGEU collective agreement.

Responsibilities

Greet patients, request required information, explain specimen collection process, and ensure compliance with test protocol.

Perform phlebotomies and connect/disconnect Holter monitors, 24‑hour blood pressure monitoring, and ECG tracings.

Collect special test specimens such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, documenting results.

Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, and follow up on requests.

Enter patient demographics, requisition information and other details for test processing.

Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Qualifications

Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent experience (e.g., nursing, infusion therapy, cardiac technology).

ECG training or experience is an asset.

Proficient data entry skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Maintains strict patient privacy and confidentiality standards.

Effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.
