Fitness Instructors, Langley

Job Overview The Township of Langley is recruiting up to 20 Fitness Instructors for the Recreation, Arts and Culture Division, Recreation Programs and Services Department. Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, these unionized positions invite candidates with advanced knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to instruct a variety of recreation and aquatic fitness programs for participants of various ages, abilities and interests. Candidates should have strong leadership and communication skills and a commitment to excellence in customer service.

Responsibilities

Assist and participate in the planning process, organization, and promotion of fitness programs.

Assist and conduct drop‑in and registered fitness classes for the public.

Maintain inventory of instruction supplies and equipment.

Assist in conducting a maintenance and custodial program ensuring safety and cleanliness standards.

Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding programs and activities.

Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, combined with related experience in programs and activities.

Sound knowledge of recreation programs, practices, and objectives.

Ability to organize, lead and participate in recreation programs and activities.

Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with participants, recreation staff, and volunteers.

Additional certifications are considered an asset.

Required Certifications

Emergency First Aid, CPR C/AED Certification.

BCRPA Aquafit Registration (or equivalent)– RI 2.

BCRPA Group Fitness Registration (or equivalent)– RI 2.

Spin, Yoga Fit Certificate– RI 2/3.

Pilates Instructor Certificate– RI 4.

Yoga Instructor Certificate– RI 4.

Zumba Instructor Certificate– RI 4.

BCRPA Personal Trainer registration (or equivalent)– RI 4.

BCAK Kinesiologist (or equivalent)– RI 5.

Position Title and Rate of Pay

Recreation Instructor 2 (RI 2)– $30.83 – $34.25 (four steps, 2024 rates) plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits.

Recreation Instructor 3 (RI 3)– $31.97 – $35.40 (four steps, 2024 rates) plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits.

Recreation Instructor 4 (RI 4)– $33.11 – $36.54 (four steps, 2024 rates) plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits.

Recreation Instructor 5 (RI 5)– $34.25 – $37.68 (four steps, 2024 rates) plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits.

Additional Information This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). Successive candidates must obtain a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
