Sr. Controls Engineer, Geartrain Manufacturing, Optimus …, Langley
Description
What To Expect Optimus geartrain manufacturing team is seeking a skilled and highly motivated, equipment control engineer with high precision equipment build experience within gearbox, electric motor or other industries focusing on rotating machinery design and manufacturing. We work with the cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, Automation, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop volume manufacturable designs and processes that will produce gearboxes. The role of the equipment control engineer is to support establishing to world-class production line for gearboxes and drive scalable design and production methods used to make “the machines that make the machines”. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, has excellent engineering and physics fundamentals with hands on experience, is excited about manufacturing equipment and process development, does not shy away from a challenge, highly organized, has great attention to detail, and is able to work in fast paced development environment. with analytical and practical engineering focus. What You'll Do Participate in initial equipment conceptual development, carefully balancing product specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality, and lead‑time limits Implement control reliable safety systems (e.g., ANSI/RIA 15.06 and OSHA compliant) for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment Architect, write, and debug PLC logic, emphasizing code organization, structure, documentation, maintainability, and reusability Architect, write, and debug programs for subsystems such as robots, vision systems, test equipment, and manufacturing execution systems Participate in Tesla specification and standard creation, release to vendors, and quote technical evaluation Select and size electrical and electromechanical components Generate aesthetically straightforward HMI screens for complex machinery, providing sufficient feedback for troubleshooting Lay out new industrial electrical control panels that are NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A compliant, and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic, and fluid plumbing Introduce automated processes into production, and train maintenance and production teams to support after deployment into production What You'll Bring Proficiency in standard and safety PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3) Proficiency in script-based programming (e.g., Python, Go, SQL) Proficiency in robot programming (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, ABB) Proficiency in servo system commissioning (e.g., Siemens SIMATIC, Rockwell Kinetix, Beckhoff Drive Manager 2) Proficiency in 2D/3D vision system programming (e.g., Keyence XGX, Cognex Insight, LMI Gocator) In-depth knowledge of equipment safety standards (e.g., ANSI/RIA 15.06, OSHA compliant) and electrical standards (e.g., NFPA 79, NEC, UL 508A) Degree in Mechatronics or related field, or equivalent experience Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2pilrz
