Our Story: Bar Down Bakery is a community-forward charitable bakery founded by a local brother and sister team. Specializing in unique coffee beverages, bakery classics and irresistible fusions of your favourite baked goods, Bar Down Bakery offers a taste experience like no other. After launching in 2023 and becoming famous for their 'brookies' (which are the perfect fusion between a cookie and a brownie) Bar Down Bakery expanded upon their offerings to include freshly baked breads, beautifully crafted viennoiserie and unique fusions, like their 'cro-nuts.' They proudly donate a portion of proceeds to KidSport, as well as a variety of other local charities, and are on a mission to serve irresistible baked goods, that do good for their community. However, we are not just looking for anyone to fill this role - we are looking for a true rising star. As a community-forward small business, we are looking for someone who has a true passion for the art of pastry/baking, previous experience/knowledge of baking and a willingness to learn. Compensation: $21 - $25/hr +tips with opportunity to increase with proven experience and skills Schedule: - Shift times may range between 5am - 3pm - A successful candidate should be prepared to work weekdays and weekends. - Full time availability Responsibilities and General : - Can work both independently and with a team - Assist the Head Pastry Chef in executing a well-run shift and demonstrate clear leadership ability - Assisting the Head Pastry Chef with daily production (breads, croissants and various pastries) - Mixing bread and croissant doughs - Ability to learn and adapt to new tasks quickly - Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and multitask - Must have experience in bread production, sourdough production and pastry dough lamination - Experience with tempered sauces/creams (ex. pastry cream) is a valued asset A day in your life: 5am: Start your day with bread production - mix, shape and then put away the loaves to cold-proof. OR assist in leading the morning baking, finishing with glazing, decorating and icing. 10am: Mix additional doughs as requested by the Head Pastry Chef (croissant, pastry, scone, or our signature brookie dough) 12pm: Assist in preparing croissants (shaping, lamination) Who you are/what you bring to the team: - You have a sincere passion for baking with previous knowledge or experience - You are a go-getter and strive to achieve daily goals - You work well independently and unsupervised and can motivate yourself to make your workday enjoyable, successful and positive. - You are a hardworking individual who understands that you can have an impact on the success of a small business by supporting it in reaching it’s goals Requirements: - Must be available to work weekends. - Must have a positive attitude and be self-motivated - Must be reliable and consistent - Must have reliable transportation to get to work - Have your Food Safe Level 1 ‘Bonus Marks’: - Certification from an acknowledged pastry/culinary school or program Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour Benefits - Company events - Discounted or free food - On-site parking Application question(s): - How do you feel that you can contribute to the success of Bar Down Bakery in this role? - There are many bakeries in the Lower Mainland - why do you want to work with US? - Please outline any and all previous experience or knowledge that you have: Work Location: In person Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2prdwc
