About Us
Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) is a not-for-profit organization serving the Manor Park community through year-round recreational programming, licensed childcare, community events, and outdoor rink operations. MPCC works in close partnership with the City of Ottawa and delivers programs at the Manor Park Community Centre, Manor Park Public School, and surrounding outdoor spaces.
Our programs include After Three in Manor Park (A3), summer day camps, adult fitness and arts programming, and a range of specialty workshops for children, youth, and adults.
The Opportunity
We're seeking a Recreation Coordinator to lead the planning and delivery of high-quality, inclusive recreation programs for all ages. Reporting to the Executive Director, in this position you'll oversee day-to-day program operations, support and supervise staff and volunteers, and play a hands-on role in ensuring programs are safe, well-run, and responsive to community needs.
This role is ideal for a mature, self-driven professional who is highly organized, communicates clearly and professionally, and is comfortable leading staff while also engaging directly with participants and families.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Delivery
- Design, plan, and deliver engaging recreational programs for children, youth, and adults
- Oversee core program areas including adult programs, children and youth programs, After Three (A3), summer camps, and volunteer-led initiatives
- Monitor participation and program quality; evaluate outcomes and recommend improvements
- Identify new program opportunities and recruit qualified instructors and facilitators
Operations and Administration
- Manage program registrations, participant accounts, and related transactions using Amilia
- Prepare and monitor program budgets; process invoices, contracts, payments, and reconciliations
- Maintain accurate administrative records, policies, and procedures
- Coordinate facility bookings and manage program supplies and equipment
Staff and Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff, coaches, and volunteers
- Foster a positive, professional, and supportive team culture
- Provide leadership coverage and step into front-line roles when required
Customer Service and Community Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, families, and community members
- Respond to inquiries, support registrations, and provide front desk coverage as needed
- Build community partnerships and support inclusive, accessible programming
Marketing, Communications, and Events
- Develop and submit promotional content for programs and events
- Maintain community bulletin boards, signage, and program communications
- Provide on-site coordination and support for events and special programs
Key Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Community Development, Physical Education, or a related field; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum 3 years of experience planning and coordinating recreational programs
- Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children and/or youth in a community or recreation setting
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities
- Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with families, staff, volunteers, and the public
- Commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certification
- Eligible for a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French is an asset
