About the AFN The AFN is an advocacy organization that takes direction and fulfills mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development of policy, public education, and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

The AFN was created out of a desire among First Nations leadership for a strong and effective collective advocacy organization. From this, values such as respect for human rights, diversity, justice, and the sovereignty of each rights-holding First Nation guide the work of the organization.

Position Overview: The Event and Technology Support Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality technical support for AFN’s in-person and virtual events, online meetings, and technology platforms, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint. The role also involves coordinating event logistics, managing databases, maintaining content on SharePoint, and producing technical documentation. The incumbent plays a keyrole in ensuring seamless technology operations, enabling staff and participants to engage effectively across platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical support for in-person and virtual events, including setup, testing, and troubleshooting of audio/visual (A/V) equipment.

Support online meetings using Zoom and Microsoft Teams, including scheduling, monitoring, and real-time technical assistance.

Liaise with event and meeting planners to assess and fulfill all technology requirements.

Collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure successful execution of events.

Manage, maintain, and update various internal databases, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and accuracy.

Oversee SharePoint sites: create and manage content, configure site settings, manage user permissions, and troubleshoot issues.

Support document and data governance protocols in coordination with IT leadership.

Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for end-users on relevant technologies and systems.

Create and maintain technical documentation, including user guides and troubleshooting manuals.

Provide responsive technical support and user assistance for event and IT-related requests.

Support planning and execution of technology-related projects, including equipment upgrades and platform transitions.

Track and reconcile event-related budgets and technology expenditures; recommend cost‑saving measures where appropriate.

Collect and analyze data on technology usage and event performance, preparing reports and insights for stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

Occasional evening or weekend work required to support events and meetings.

May involve on‑call availability during major events or system transitions.

Ability to lift and transport A/V equipment and peripherals.

Mental Demands:

Frequent need for precision and focus when configuring systems or resolving live issues.

Must manage shifting priorities and adapt to changing event logistics or technology environments.

Resilience in high‑pressure situations with strong commitment to service excellence.

Physical Demands:

Primarily desk‑based with extended periods using computers or video conferencing tools.

Occasional physical tasks including setting up equipment or transporting devices.

Involves some travel and event site preparation activities.

Who Can Apply?

Diploma or degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. A combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in technical support, event technology, or a related role.

Experience with A/V equipment, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, databases, and SharePoint administration.

Knowledge of basic project coordination, budgeting, and reporting tools.

Experience delivering end‑user training and creating technical documentation is an asset.

Must hold a valid driver’s license and be available for travel to off‑site events, including AFN’s satellite office in Cornwall, Ontario.
