Join CNL’s Waste Management Function Team and help shape the future of environmental stewardship across Canada by supporting the strategic execution of the Decommissioning and Waste Management Mission. As a Waste Management Function Program Officer, you’ll guide the development and continuous improvement of processes and procedures that ensure waste is managed safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.Responsibilities

Identifying and addressing gaps in existing Waste Management Function requirements, processes, and procedures through observations, assessments, reviews at CNL’s sites and benchmarking against other non‑CNL facilities (nuclear&non‑nuclear). Assisting in the development of processes to conduct verification and assessment of waste management practices. Conducting site and facility level Waste Management Function compliance verifications and Waste Management Assessments of Waste Generators and Waste Receivers, with the objective to identify non‑compliances and opportunities for improvement.Establishing, documenting and maintaining a system to compile site‑specific Function measures, waste data, and records, including preparation of periodic summary reports. Communicating Function requirements and opportunities for improvement through a) assisting in developing and delivering Waste Management Function Training, and b) presenting on Waste Management Function requirements at employee (safety, branch, interest group) meetings.Interfacing with planning and technical staff in other parts of CNL to meet CNL needs in a coherent integrated manner, focusing on Clean‑up Function, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Integrated Waste Strategy (IWS), Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation, Fuel Program and Projects, Port Hope Area Initiative, Reactor Decommissioning, Waste Services and the Whiteshell Laboratories Closure Project.Developing and/or supporting the development of technical plans for managing waste at various CNL sites across Canada. Developing and/or supporting the development of discrete deliverables supporting work related to waste characterization, processing, packaging, transportation and disposal. Overseeing the work of subcontract resources in the development and completion of technical deliverables.Other duties as assigned by your manager. Qualifications

Education At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific skilled organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization. Experience Collecting, analyzing and organizing complex data sets to make recommendations based on experience, industry‑best practices, or innovative approaches.Resolving complex technical challenges, from both a strategic and execution‑level perspective. Technical planning and execution of Environmental Remediation Management projects. Practical working knowledge of the full range of Waste Acceptance Criteria of hazardous and radioactive waste facilities domestically and internationally.Knowledge, Skills&Abilities Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, with stakeholders from across a large‑scale organization. Positive attitude and commitment to providing support to the team to ensure deliverables are effectively met on‑schedule and on‑budget. Quick‑learner, willing to take various internal and external training courses related to waste management and/or project management.Committed to transparent and meaningful engagement of stakeholders, with a demonstrated history of developing and maintaining long‑term professional relationships. Highly disciplined and honest, committed to high‑quality delivery of assignments. Exemplary work ethic toward helping the Waste Management Program Team realize its mandate.Understanding of the Canadian nuclear industry, including CNSC regulations and key projects/approaches of partner organizations (e.g., NWMO). Understanding of the interaction of planning, execution and close‑out of multi‑year projects. Understanding of the full lifecycle of waste management.Understanding of project management principles (asset). Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”Working Conditions

Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty‑seven and a half (37.5) hour work week. This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. Benefits
