Hardware Product Development Manager – Onsite Position
We’re looking for a highly motivated Hardware Product Development Manager to join our Ottawa, ON team. The role involves leading a dynamic group of Hardware Engineers responsible for the development of new products and the support of existing product lines. You will plan and oversee product development activities, ensuring objectives are achieved to meet business and customer goals. Collaboration with cross‑functional team members in Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), Customer Support, Sales and Marketing is essential. You will coach and mentor the development team to realize its full potential and uphold our culture of quality and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities
Supervise the work assignments of highly knowledgeable and motivated project teams. Be a hands‑on leader who achieves success through modelling best practices and a service attitude. Manage career development, training and performance evaluations of staff allocated to the Engineering Team. Facilitate and ensure individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood. Establish effective practices to attract, develop, motivate and retain high‑caliber staff. Lead cross‑functional problem‑solving initiatives. Review testing protocols for compliance with accepted standards and verify testing results to ensure desired functionality. Participate in bid/project activities such as defining architectures, developing technical proposals, and providing detailed cost and schedule estimates. Interact with customers regarding requirements and technical solutions. Manage third‑party relationships and coordinate work for cross‑site initiatives. Provide pre‑ and post‑sales support when required by Product Marketing or Customer Support. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Technologist Diploma, or equivalent (will be considered). At least 8 years of industry experience related to electronics computing. Previous managerial or leadership experience (preferred). Experience/familiarity in the following areas is an asset:
Development of electronic assemblies for aerospace applications. Design for manufacturing processes and techniques. Design for rugged environments. Open system standards such as VME, VPX, XMC, and PMC. Leading‑edge Intel and NXP/Qualcomm processors (x86, PA, ARM). Leading‑edge Broadcom Ethernet Switches. High‑end FPGA design. Latest embedded industry technologies, such as Gen 3/4 PCI Express, 40GbE Ethernet, USB 3, DDR4 memory, etc. PCB technologies: stack‑up definition, material selection, IPC, etc. Product configuration management. DO‑254 safety certification.
Demonstrated drive and ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast‑paced setting. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and react to shifting priorities to meet business needs. Creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems. Results‑oriented team player who leads by example, holds themselves accountable for performance, takes ownership of responsibilities, and champions process improvement initiatives. Self‑confident leader capable of motivating and mentoring staff. Ability to estimate and schedule development projects. Detailed knowledge of embedded computing systems architecture, hardware, software and related support requirements in the military/aerospace industry.
