Compensation Pay Range: $65.09-$76.14 Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at CHEO is a Registered Nurse with advanced education (Master’s or Doctoral prepared), possessing skills and experience to provide personalized, quality care to the communities CHEO serves. NPs are regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and hold an RN (Extended Class) license with an independent scope of practice, including diagnosis, prescribing, and performing medical procedures. Responsibilities

Perform and document comprehensive patient assessments based on thorough history taking from the patient and/or caregiver and physical examination. Develop a plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team as appropriate. Order and prioritize diagnostic tests and initiate procedures as needed. Interpret laboratory, radiology, and other test results in relation to patient assessment and differential diagnoses. Prescribe pharmacological and other therapeutic interventions. Monitor treatment and modify treatment plans accordingly while evaluating outcomes. Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and disease‑specific education to patients and caregivers. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create holistic plans of care for patients. Provide follow‑up care for patients requiring regular visits. Perform skills and procedures as per competency within clinical specialty. Identify patient and caregiver socioeconomic needs while making informed decisions about clinical care. Consult and refer to specialist providers or health disciplines as needed for care delivery. Document all elements of patient work‑up and care in the EMR during or following each patient encounter. Provide transfer of care through consultation for patients who require alternative care beyond the knowledge and clinical skill of the NP. Authorize, facilitate, and coordinate admission, transfers, leaves of absence, and discharge of patients admitted to hospital. Participate in care coordination through clinical case management via direct patient communication (telephone calls, virtual visits), patient conferences, multidisciplinary meetings, rounds, and clinic visits. Participate in health promotion and disease prevention through verbal and written communication mechanisms (pamphlet development, program development, educational lectures) related to specialty. Identify, lead, and implement specialty‑specific program initiatives and improvements for care delivery. Participate in quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Act as a change agent to seek continuous improvement of care delivery within specialty and beyond. Participate in organizational committees as a key stakeholder who understands service delivery and is a clinical expert. Fulfill the advanced nursing practice scope by demonstrating strong clinical and academic leadership. Seek opportunities for leadership both within clinical specialty and academically through internal and external organization affiliation. Provide formal and informal teaching/education opportunities to clinical staff and learners. Mentor NP students from various programs and academic institutions. Seek joint appointment to encourage ongoing educational opportunities with universities and colleges. Encourage and provide opportunities for education in the clinical setting (outpatient and inpatient) with various health care providers. Participate in self-directed professional development to maintain competency in the clinical specialty (mentorship, formal education, consultation with health care colleagues). Disseminate education to health care community partners and professionals as needed. Identify and incorporate evidence into practice‑based decision making and patient care. Lead and participate in specialty specific research. Promote quality improvement initiatives through best practices and evidence‑informed change. Seek appointment with the Research Institute as a Clinical Investigator through leadership of research questions and study development. Qualifications

Master’s degree in Nursing or relevant alternative (Essential). Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class (RN (EC)) (Essential). Current membership of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) (Essential). Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience (Essential). Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (Essential). Ability to work within an inter‑disciplinary health care environment (Essential). Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and superior interprofessional relationship skills (Essential). Demonstrates excellence in clinical leadership and clinical practice (Essential). Demonstrates experience with education and teaching in an academically affiliated hospital (Essential). Experience with program development, implementation and evaluation (Essential). Self‑directed professional who can function independently (Essential). Prioritizes the principles of patient and family‑centered care for care assessment and delivery (Essential). Ability to adapt to fast‑paced environments and multitask in a flexible manner to meet the demands of the clinical setting and workload (Essential). Ability to work remotely as required (Essential). Flexible approach to work demands (Essential). Knowledge of hospital‑based workplace hazard assessment, monitoring and exposure risk (Essential). Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential).
