Senior Software Backend Developer (Ottawa), Ahuntsic North

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a high-impact engineering team working on a large-scale transformation and modernization initiative. This role focuses heavily on building and evolving modern, cloud-native services that power critical business decisioning across the enterprise. This is a one-year contract role and the successful consultant needs to have enhanced reliability clearance.You will play a hands-on role in designing, developing, and scaling a distributed microservices ecosystem, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, production-grade systems. What You’ll Do

Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Node.js and TypeScript (core focus) Build and operate cloud-native applications on Azure, leveraging services such as Functions, Event Hubs, Storage, Key Vault, and SQL Develop and integrate APIs that connect with decisioning systems, rules engines, and machine learning model endpointsTranslate business requirements into robust, maintainable, and secure technical solutions Collaborate with product, domain, and engineering teams in an Agile workplace Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and platform engineering initiatives Ensure high code quality through strong testing practices and a quality-first mindsetImplement observability and monitoring using tools such as logging frameworks and metrics platforms (e.g., Grafana) Mentor team members and contribute to a strong engineering culture What We’re Looking For

Strong hands‑on experience with Node.js and TypeScript in production environments (must‑have) Solid understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems design Experience building and deploying applications on Microsoft Azure Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworksExperience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, API gateways) Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments (Azure DevOps or similar tools) What Sets You Apart
