Community Health is seeking a compassionate individual with an understanding of First Nations dynamics and history to perform Client Advocate duties.
Job Description Maskwacis Health Services is looking for a qualified RN to join the health services team. The successful candidate shall enhance relationships between WHCC employees and indigenous clients/families. The RN will share cultural teachings&knowledge to enhance cultural competencies of all employees providing service to pregnant, postnatal women, babies and their family. RNs are required to work as part of the MHS Team.
Advocacy for clients using Alberta Health Services (AHS)&/or MHS or other services and programs as required.
Liaison between Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, maternal-child programs and clients.
Provide health education prenatally and postnatally.
Assist with the prevention&/or management of syphilis in pregnancy and newborns.
Assessment of pregnant women and newborns which may require home visitation or clinical visits.
Assist clients with documentation/registration of newborn(s) as needed.
Assist with Non-Insured Health Benefits&or Jordan’s principal programs, etc. for example: prescriptions, equipment, supplies&transportation.
Collaborate with L&D Nurses, Hospital&Community Physicians, Community Health Nurses, or other programs.
Provide support as needed for explanation of services, consents, procedures, etc.
Under minimal supervision, work collaboratively with a university-based research team to conduct community-based scientific research specifically related to Indigenous family health, including pregnancy, maternal, paternal and child health outcomes and related areas of inquiry.
Assist with data collection, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis to prepare reports as required for the research project, following required principles, regulations,&protocols. In person interviewing with questionnaires may be required.
Ensures all aspects of privacy that includes client&data integrity in accordance with the ethics approval and the Health Information Act.
Attend required meetings.
Other duties as assigned relevant to this position.
Qualifications
Completion of a recognized RN Program.
Current College of Registered Nurses of Alberta registration in good standing.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Class 5 AB Drivers License with clean driving record, eligible to drive MHS vehicles&to be Insured.
Computer literacy with programs such as MS word, Excel, Google Docs, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Working knowledge with Zoom, Teams, etc.
Excellent Communication skills both oral and written.
Excellent team player.
Knowledge and experience using electronic medical records for documentation of care.
Ability to speak, read or understand Cree is an asset.
Knowledge of Cree Traditions and Culture is an asset.
Previous experience with research is an asset.
Provide wholistic care in the spirit of the medicine wheel: mind, body, physical,&spiritual well-being.
Knowledge of community resources, programs, and assistance provincially, federally, and on-reserve is advantageous.
Experience in Community/Public Health, maternal-child programs and/or related experience is an asset.
Knowledge of the geographical area of Maskwacis is an asset.

7.5-hour shift (8:30 am to 4:30 pm)
