Overview Sperry Rail Service is a leading global provider of Rail Flaw Detection (RFD) services and technologies for railway networks worldwide. Position Summary This is a hands‑on mechanic role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Sperry’s fleet of specialized vehicles and rail‑bound equipment. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians, this position supports both shop and field operations and may take on limited supervisory responsibilities for projects or personnel.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance&Repair
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on field vehicles, including rail‑bound, hi‑rail, and YTV equipment
Complete carriage component repairs and preventative maintenance
Perform repairs on Kubota engines and hydraulic generators
Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns in the field
Inspection&Compliance
Conduct routine safety checks and vehicle inspections
Perform and document vehicle audits, including SDMS logging
Ensure all equipment meets safety and quality compliance standards
Identify and complete required repairs based on inspection findings
Fabrication&Projects
Assist with fabrication and modification of new or existing equipment
Support maintenance‑related special projects as assigned
Operations&Documentation
Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and labor using Fleet Wave (or similar systems)
Monitor inventory levels and maintain a clean, organized workspace
Complete all work in a timely and efficient manner
Safety&Teamwork
Follow all company safety policies in both shop and field environments
Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs
Work independently with limited supervision while collaborating across teams
Work Environment&Scope
Work performed in both shop and field environments
Regular interaction with employees at all levels and customer personnel
Cross‑functional collaboration across departments
Work directly impacts equipment reliability, customer satisfaction, and operational performance
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or CAEC
Minimum of 2 years of electrical experience
Minimum of 2 years of truck or heavy equipment mechanical experience
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and assembly drawings
Strong mechanical aptitude with heavy trucks or work equipment
Willingness to participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to maintain professionalism with customers and team members
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class 5Q or higher (or willingness and ability to obtain)
Additional Information
