Rank: Research Associate – Niitsitapi pod The Research Associate for the Niitsitapi pod is expected to: - Lead the Niitsitapi pod language project, ensuring key milestones are met and supporting and advising the students who are operationalizing the activities. - Manage and coordinate other Niitsitapi pod research activities, including: - Planning and coordinating research mobilization activities, including (for example) contributions to research publications and presentations. - Hiring and training core pod positions, including onboarding new pod members. - Supervise research assistants and researchers in residence, and other pod employees as appropriate. - Organize and chair pod meetings. - Assist project leads in organizing meetings with pod partners and community members. - Assist project leads in organizing pod members’ participation in conferences and events. - Promote and organize collaboration across the pod. - Keep a calendar of events and meetings. - Oversee annual review of research progress. - Ensure that reporting deadlines are met (oversee administrative role who prepares financial reports, and coordinate preparation of narrative reports). - Coordinate requests from and otherwise liaise with the Abundant Intelligences leadership and administrative team at Concordia, ensuring that documents, materials, and other information is circulated and that the appropriate individuals provide feedback in a timely fashion. Other duties will be required in support of events such as: - Coordinating with Elders (in collaboration with the Indigenous Research Coordinator). - Booking hotels. The position will be approximately 25 hours per week and will report to the Primary Investigator, Dr. Jackie Rice. The individual will need to be present in the CIART lab on a regular basis to check in on research assistants and researchers in residence, in addition to attending meetings and events. The successful candidate will work closely with the Indigenous Research Coordinator. They will require excellent organizational and relationship skills and the ability to understand and condense many points of view. This position is dependent on securing funding through the Abundant Intelligences research project. Qualifications and Skills - Interest in how high-level research is conducted in interdisciplinary environments. - Comfort working with a wide range of collaborators, including faculty, staff, students, Elders, and community members. - Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong connections to Blackfoot culture, artistic practices, language, and/or community, or interest in building such connections. - Superior organizational skills and the ability to multitask; working independently and in a team. - Preference will be given to graduate students enrolled in University of Lethbridge programs. - An understanding of research related to language, data science, or artificial intelligence will be an asset. - Experience managing complex projects.
