Candidate Profile We are looking for a Structural Design Technologist to support the design and documentation of structural systems for building projects. This role will focus primarily on preparing structural drawings, assisting with structural design and calculations, coordinating with project teams, and supporting engineers through the design and construction phases. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and comfortable working in a collaborative consulting environment. Experience with building structures, cold-formed steel, wood, concrete, steel, or specialty structural components would be considered an asset. Key Responsibilities As a Structural Design Technologist, your duties will include but are not limited to: - Preparing details, sketches, and design documentation for building projects under the direction of senior engineers - Assisting with structural design for building components and specialty structural elements - Reviewing architectural drawings and coordinating structural requirements with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultant drawings - Assisting with shop drawing reviews, RFIs, site instructions, and construction-phase documentation - Supporting engineers with calculations, design checks, markups, and technical research - Preparing structural details for cold-formed steel, wood, concrete, steel, and other building systems - Coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and project team members to resolve design and construction questions - Assisting with site reviews when required and helping prepare field review reports - Maintaining organized project files, drawing sets, calculation packages, and design records - Bringing technical issues, coordination conflicts, and design questions to the attention of the engineering team Professional Qualifications Education - Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Building Engineering Technology, Architectural and Building Technology, or equivalent; or - Civil or Structural Engineering degree from an accredited university Registration or eligibility for registration with ASTTBC or EGBC is considered an asset. Experience - Experience preparing structural drawings and details for building projects - Experience with consulting engineering, construction, or building design is preferred - Familiarity with building materials and systems such as wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and cold-formed steel is an asset - Familiarity with the BC Building Code, Vancouver Building By-law, or Canadian design standards is an asset - Previous field review or construction experience is an asset, but not the primary focus of this role Skills - Strong drafting, detailing, and technical documentation skills - Ability to understand and coordinate architectural and structural drawings - Strong attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to conceptualize structural and architectural details in three dimensions - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team - Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn - Comfortable working on multiple projects with changing priorities - Committed to technical excellence and providing strong client service What We Offer - A comprehensive health benefits package - Competitive salary with performance-based bonuses - Opportunities for personal and professional growth - An inspiring and supportive workplace culture - Exposure to stimulating building projects and opportunities to advance your technical skills - A collaborative and inclusive environment that helps team members reach their goals Are you interested in this role but feel you don’t meet all the qualifications?
