Junior/Intermediate Wildlife Biologist – Permanent – Full Time This is a field-based role operating across Southwestern British Columbia and Southern Alberta, working in prairie, mountain, and boreal environments. Field conditions can be physically demanding and may include hiking in uneven or remote terrain, exposure to variable weather conditions, and long field days across all seasons. Strong wildlife identification skills are essential, including the ability to confidently identify prairie, mountain, and boreal species by sight and sound in real-time field conditions. Work involves professional interaction with clients, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders. You must be comfortable representing the company in the field and communicating clearly and respectfully in a variety of settings. This role requires a high degree of independence and accountability. You will be trusted to make informed field decisions, maintain accurate data collection, and ensure quality standards are met without direct supervision. Schedules are typically a 5‑and‑2 rotation; however, project demands may require extended field deployments, including periods of multiple weeks away. Key Responsibilities - Conducting field‑based wildlife surveys, including breeding bird and avian migration surveys; species‑specific surveys (e.g., sharp‑tailed grouse, burrowing owl, sensitive raptors, amphibians, sensitive snakes, and short‑horned lizards) and wildlife sweeps and nest searches - Technical report writing - Providing timely updates to senior staff on field programme progress - Working safely and effectively in variable field conditions - Maintaining accurate, high‑quality field data collection Qualifications and Experience - Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in wildlife biology, zoology, environmental science, or related discipline - Minimum of 3 years field experience (consulting experience preferred) - Strong ability to identify wildlife species by sight and sound and identify habitat requirements - Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations, approval processes, and survey guidelines - Experience conducting wildlife surveys in Alberta, Saskatchewan and/or British Columbia - Ability to work well with others and be organized; organisation is key as you will be responsible for working on various projects concurrently - Must have computer knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft programmes (Word, Excel) - Ability to read a map and use a GPS - Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, H2S Alive, TDG, ATV safe rider, and First Aid are required. If you don’t have any of these currently, we can work on getting them for you - Membership (or eligibility) in the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) Additional Assets - ArcGIS or QGIS knowledge - Plant identification skills - Experience with wetland assessments and soil assessments - Experience conducting environmental monitoring for construction or exploration projects About Bear Tracks Bear Tracks Environmental Services (2015) Ltd. is a multidisciplinary environmental consulting firm established in 2006.
