Position Overview Horizon School Division is committed to engaging and empowering all learners and prioritizes strong instruction, response to intervention, and wellness.
VAUXHALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL– an early learning to grade six school with approximately 140 students and a staff of 23, located approximately 20 minutes north of Taber or 50 minutes northeast of Lethbridge.
Regular Learning Commons Support– approximately 9 hours per week. Hours of work: Tuesday, Wednesday,&Thursday 11:30 a.m.– 3:13 p.m.
The Learning Commons Assistants supports students and staff within a modern Learning Commons model that promotes collaboration, creativity, literacy, inquiry, and flexible learning opportunities. This role combines responsibilities within the Learning Commons with occasional scheduled classroom assistant support throughout the school day. The structure allows the assistant to support whole‑school learning initiatives and targeted student needs.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
Help maintain an organized, inviting, and accessible Learning Commons space.
Support students in locating and utilizing books, technology, and learning resources.
Encourage literacy development through reading support, book promotion, and student engagement activities.
Assist with collaborative projects, inquiry‑based learning opportunities, and creative learning experiences.
Support teachers and students during Learning Commons visits and flexible learning blocks.
Help manage book circulation, shelving, displays, and resource organization.
Promote positive student interactions and an inclusive learning environment.
Assist with technology integration and basic troubleshooting when required.
Support school‑wide initiatives connected to literacy, wellness, and student engagement.
Encourage students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
Maintain confidentiality and a patient, supportive, and enthusiastic commitment to students.
Provide personal care when required, such as toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, or other physical needs, ensuring student dignity.
Ensure the safety of students in the school and community by close supervision, sanitizing equipment, and supervising students who use life‑skill tools.
Maintain collegial relationships with the students’ learning team.
