Position Information Job Title Sessional Instructor – Environmental Science Appointment Type Sessional Position Dates August 31 - December 22, 2026 Hours per week/FTE 4 – 8 hours About the Position Lethbridge Polytechnic offers a student-centered environment that provides practical and innovative learning experiences. The Centre for Business, Arts, and Sciences (CBAS) delivers a range of certificate, diploma, degree, and university transfer programs, including Business Administration, Administrative Office Professional, General Arts and Science, Agriculture Science, Environmental Science, and Academic Upgrading, together with service courses to students in many other Lethbridge Polytechnic programs. The Centre defines itself through excellence in teaching and learning, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in all activities: development and renewal of courses and programs, approaches to teaching and learning, and scholarly activity and community engagement by students and faculty. CBAS currently seeks a faculty member with superior preparation and ongoing engagement in their academic and qualified fields, passion for teaching, and willingness to commit to making excellence in teaching their primary focus. Specifically, we wish to appoint a sessional faculty with background, expertise, and proven ability to teach in the Renewable Resource Management Diploma. The successful candidate will fulfill the following responsibilities: - Prepare and teach on campus lab sections of RRM 2259 Principles of Fishery Science: 2 labs/week. - Supervise the course field trips. - Demonstrate commitment to professional development. Contribute to the goals and activities of the Centre for Business, Arts, and Sciences. - Support inclusiveness and diversity through embracing the Polytechnic’s policies on Indigenization and internationalization. Position Details Responsibilities of all faculty in the Centre for Business, Arts, and Sciences include: - Collaborate with course theory instructor. - Deliver courses on campus in the face-to-face classroom setting. - Delivering courses congruent with established course curricula and program outcomes. - Supporting the success of students with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and learning styles. - Assessing student learning in ways that both facilitate learning and ensure achievement against appropriate academic standards. - Contributing to course and program curriculum development and renewal. - Working collegially within department, School, or Polytechnic committees and project teams. Required Qualifications Post-secondary teaching experience with direct experience teaching curriculum/learning outcomes equivalent to university transfer courses. Minimum educational background is a master’s degree in environmental science or an equivalent combination of education and applied experience in a relevant discipline such as ecology, aquatic ecosystems, aquaculture. Proficiency in field-based wildlife research methods such as live trapping, population surveys, species identification, radio-telemetry, and habitat assessment. Experience leading field-based learning activities in post-secondary settings or comparable environments. Familiarity with Canadian wildlife species, particularly mammals and birds commonly encountered in Alberta’s grasslands, parklands, and foothills. Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems, online teaching tools, and educational technology. - Must have a strong commitment to effective teaching and possess a demonstrated ability. - Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills necessary to contribute positively to a team environment. Salary Commensurate with education and experience according to the Faculty Collective Agreement.
