Assignment: Grade 3/4 Elementary Generalist

Located in the Town of Coalhurst and supporting Kindergarten, Early Learning and Grade 1 to Grade 6 students, we invite motivated educators to apply for the Temporary, Full‑Time Grade 3‑4 Multi‑Age Elementary Generalist teaching position available starting August 21, 2026. Coalhurst Elementary School is a dynamic learning environment where educators go out of their way to develop programming that meets the needs of individual students. In this student‑focused environment, students are able to thrive. CES provides both universal supports for all children and targeted supports based on student needs. CES does not fit the students to the programs – they fit the programs to the individual students.

Responsibilities
Establish clear objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Alberta Education, and communicate these objectives to students. Prepare for assigned classes and demonstrate written evidence of preparation upon request. Prepare materials for learning, and classrooms for activities, as appropriate.
Instruct using a variety of instructional approaches appropriate for grade level, student needs and program focus. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Assign lessons and correct homework.
Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepare, administer, and grade a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, assignments to evaluate students' progress. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order and safety among the students for whom they are responsible, under the guidance of the Principal. Enforce all administrative policies and rules governing students.
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress. Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to discuss children’s progress and resource needs, and to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems, as appropriate.
Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests. Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injury and damage. Provide special needs students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms, as necessary.
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, as appropriate, and guide students in learning from such activities. Use computers, multimedia, and other equipment and materials to support the learning process. Organize and supervise recreational and other activities as appropriate, to promote physical, mental, and social development. Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests, as appropriate. Perform supervisory duties, as assigned, such as hall, cafeteria and playground monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
Plan assignments for Education Assistants, Special Education and other classroom support staff as appropriate, and assist the Principal in their supervision and evaluation of performance.
Perform other related tasks as appropriate, including organizing materials, displaying students’ work, as assigned.
Experience&Qualifications
Alberta Teaching Certificate
Previous experience administering elementary school curriculum
