As a Buyer, you ensure compliance with CDCI’s procurement procedures and guidelines. The incumbent will liaise with suppliers to secure the optimal combination of quality, cost, and delivery timelines, based on the material and service requirements of the shipyard. Responsibilities
Gather technical information on required parts, equipment, or services to obtain competitive pricing and lead times for requests for proposals or quotations. Identify and select potential suppliers based on the technical specifications of the requested equipment or services. Review supplier bids to ensure they fully meet the stated requirements.Obtain necessary approvals before issuing purchase orders to suppliers. Act as a resource in identifying substitute products when original items are unavailable. Request bids from suppliers, negotiate terms for goods and services, and prepare purchase orders in line with agreed terms. Collaborate with relevant departments (engineering, production, estimating, planning, etc.) to analyze technical proposals.Work with receiving personnel to resolve any non-conformities regarding delivered materials, as needed. Coordinate with the Accounting Department to address commercial issues, as needed. Occasionally provide the Estimating Department with pricing information on specific equipment and materials to support project cost evaluations.Periodically negotiate framework agreements for services and material purchases. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications
College diploma or relevant training in procurement. Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience as a buyer. Proficiency with procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite. Negotiating skills. Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers.Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage priorities effectively. Robust customer service orientation. Successful completion of the security screening process and obtainment of the required security clearance under the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program (minimum of 5 years of residency in Canada, with no interruption of 6 consecutive months.
