Overview

As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients, transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities, and operate ambulances or other modes of transportation as required. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi‑automated defibrillation; you may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are properly stocked and equipped. The working setting for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are physically demanding, including the ability to endure frequent lifting and carrying up to 105 lbs, frequent kneeling and trunk flexion, standing and sitting for extended periods, bending, twisting, side‑carrying up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assuming awkward positions.Responsibilities

Treat patients by administering minor medications, BLS airway adjuncts, and semi‑automated defibrillation; lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during transport or at scenes.Assist with stocking and equipping ambulances and other EMS vehicles, including non‑emergent transport (NET). Work in demanding environments with exposure to weather, traffic, and hazardous scenes; travel to remote locations and exposure to bodily fluids. Meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 105 lbs, knee and trunk flexion, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, twisting, and handling up to 20 lbs per hand.Required Qualifications

Non‑restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent, or ability to obtain, with a five‑year driver’s abstract current within six months and no more than six demerits prior to starting.Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via Lifemark for those not currently in a clinical position with AHS EMS; test completed within six months prior to application; Lifemark information available at lifemark.ca/alberta-health-services. Candidates must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of start date.Preferred Qualifications

Previous EMS experience in metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environments; experience in other areas of health care and public safety. Completion of additional post‑secondary programs is an asset. Applicants should provide post‑secondary education or training information at the time of application for consideration.
