Together with our partners across the country, we work to ensure that Canada leads in research and innovation.The Position: Network Software DeveloperCANARIE has an immediate opening for a Network Software Developer. The Network Software Developer is accountable for the technical design, development, and implementation of software systems that enable and enhance CANARIE’s network infrastructure and services. The position includes the design and delivery of automation platforms that improve operational efficiency, and observability.This is a new full‑time, permanent position that reports to CANARIE’s Manager, Network Software.The salary range for this role is between $103,000 to $134,000.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and test software applications related to the automation of network infrastructure and servicesImprove the network reporting mechanisms and operational support systemsAnalyze network data to track network reliability and anomalies and generate traffic reportingCreate and maintain software documentation, including requirements, and design specificationsCollaborate with other developers, security professionals and network engineering to ensure software applications are maintained and optimized for performance, security, and reliabilityDrive a shift toward containerization, monitoring, automated patch deployment and testingParticipate in operations as a member of the Network Engineering teamOn a rotation basis, providing 24 x 7 on‑call support for the CANARIE networkTravel may occasionally be requiredOther related duties and responsibilities, as requiredThe Ideal CandidateTo excel at CANARIE, you have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively on teams and are also an energetic self‑starter with the self‑motivation to work independently. You also share a dedication to CANARIE’s core values: service, trust, resilience, inclusion, discovery, and excellence.What You BringEducation and ExperienceCollege diploma or university degree or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant trainingMinimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in software development, or a related fieldExperience working in containerized environments, including Docker and KubernetesExperience with streaming telemetry and observability pipelines, including collectors, time‑series databases, and visualization toolsSkillsAbility to clearly communicate technical informationExcellent consultative, analytical, and problem‑solving skillsEffective time management to meet project deadlines and manage competing prioritiesProficiency in Python and programming languages used in software development and network automation along with version control (Git)Operational experience with Linux OS, including system management and maintenanceFamiliarity with network management protocols, such as NETCONF, and gNMI with an understanding of gRPC‑based APIs is desirableWorking knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, and related networking technologies is desirableWorking knowledge of the Microsoft Office suiteCome Work with UsWe are committed to employment equity and encourage anyone who can contribute to the diversification of ideas and perspectives to apply.
