Reporting clinically to the Chief Practice Leader, Respiratory Therapy, and administratively to the Manager, Health Services, you will maintain a clinical caseload and provide direct care and education to patients with a variety of respiratory illnesses. You will perform respiratory therapy functions such as pulmonary function tests, methacholine challenge tests, exercise oximetry studies, and overnight oximetry studies, and you will contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of respiratory services within your assigned area.Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care by assessing patient needs, consulting with physicians, developing care plans, and educating patients and families. Perform respiratory therapy function tests, including pulmonary function, spirometry, peak flow monitoring, lung volume determination, diffusion capacity, inhalation challenges, arterial blood gas punctures, and exercise‑induced asthma studies in accordance with quality‑control standards.Monitor pulmonary function and equipment, ensuring calibration and quality‑control checks, and advise the Clinical Practice Chief or designated personnel regarding maintenance and repair requests. Participate in all cardiac arrests as an active member of the cardiac arrest/trauma team, assisting physicians with bronchoscopes and equipment.Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation support of patients, including routine care and monitoring of artificial airways. Maintain patient statistics, records, progress reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, and evaluation data, providing workload statistics as required. Provide orientation and in‑service sessions to new department staff on equipment, policies, procedures, and respiratory therapy services.Educate and supervise patients, families, and other health‑care professionals on all types of respiratory illnesses. Provide input into the development of respiratory therapy materials and share information with patients, families, and interested parties about available services. Maintain and establish reorder levels for medication stocks, supplies, and educational literature, generating requisitions per policy.Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved Respiratory Therapy program; two (2) years of recent clinical experience in an acute‑care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) credentialing exam and eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).Current CPR Level "C" or equivalent and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory therapy and respiratory diseases related to the position. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Teaching ability for students, patients, and families individually and in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Equipment operation and maintenance proficiency.
