About The Opportunity On behalf of our client, a longstanding private
Toronto-based real estate development firm, we are seeking an experienced Controller , or potentially VP , to lead the accounting and financial reporting function across the company's corporate, development project, and property entities. Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, this senior hands-on role will oversee a three-person accounting team while remaining actively involved in core accounting execution. The successful candidate will be a CPA with at least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, technically strong, detail-oriented, and analytically minded. They will move comfortably between detailed accounting work and senior-level financial oversight across a complex, multi-entity real estate platform. The compensation package is in the range of $130,000–$180,000, depending on level of experience and exposure, plus a bonus, with a comprehensive health benefits plan, four weeks of vacation, and the opportunity to work alongside a dynamic, entrepreneurial team. Our client is an advocate for equity and diversity and recognizes the importance of leadership engagement within its framework. Candidate Profile Summary You are an accounting leader who thrives in entrepreneurial, owner-led real estate environments. You bring deep technical accounting expertise paired with the practical instincts to navigate the complexity, capital intensity, and multi-stakeholder dynamics that define modern real estate development. You are equally comfortable closing the books, owning multi-entity consolidations, and walking a Managing Partner through cash flow projections, project economics, and refinancing scenarios. You understand that in a boutique and ambitious real estate platform, priorities shift quickly, accuracy is non-negotiable, and financial information must support real business decisions in real time. As a leader, you set clear expectations for your team, mentor them with care, and stay close enough to the work to know when something is off. You are pragmatic, calm, and solutions-oriented — someone who runs a disciplined accounting function while remaining hands-on enough to execute alongside the team – and you aren’t afraid to say ‘no’ to other leaders or ownership when something doesn’t work.
