Schedule June 30 start date with potential for weekday evening or weekend shift.

Job Summary In this position, you will plan, organize, and instruct a disc golf putting program. You will also be responsible for ensuring a positive and safe environment for participants and peers. As the Disc Golf Instructor, your level of sophistication and concentration will be geared toward the particular participants being taught while ensuring a positive and safe environment for all.

Duties

Prepare, organize, and lead disc golf programs for children and adults.

Facilitate, lead, and supervise the program.

Organize and write lesson plans to ensure participant safety and quality instruction.

Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies; maintain an inventory of supplies and report to the Program Coordinator/ Recreation Supervisor any items needing replacement and ensure the site, equipment, and supplies are appropriate to reduce risk.

Prepare and present an orientation to patrons/participants at the beginning of each program session, covering:

General rules and procedures of disc golf.

Fitness and safety measures to be followed.

Keep attendance records and check with participants who have extended absences. Provide new participant names not on the list to the Program Coordinator/ Recreation Supervisor.

Ensure all participant emergency and medical information is obtained through the completion of a personal data form on the participants’ first day.

Work with the program supervisor to ensure that program participants are aware of upcoming events, program changes or cancellations.

Supervise part‑time Program Assistants and volunteers as required.

Advise the Program Coordinator/Recreation Supervisor of any customer service issues, complaints or inquiries.

Ensure safety at all times, enforcing safety regulations as set out by the City of Markham sports, fitness, arts and leisure programs policies and procedures and the requirements of the various legislative bodies.

Qualifications

Minimum in progress or successful completion of a High School Diploma.

Current Standard First Aid Certification with CPR "C" required.

High Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development (children ages 6 to 12 years).

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

Good customer service and communication (written and verbal) skills to coach and mentor a diverse range of generally adult students.

Excellent leadership skills.
