Senior Process Engineer - Industrial Water and Wastewater
Date: Apr 13, 2026 | Location: Markham, ON, CA | Company: Black&Veatch Family of Companies | Opportunity Type: Staff Contract In this role, you will lead and design water and wastewater treatment systems for industrial clients across a broad range of sectors including power, gas processing, mining, technology/semiconductor, heavy industry, current energy and food industries. You will develop and apply advanced treatment techniques, prepare technical evaluations, and present recommendations to clients and stakeholders.Key Responsibilities
Lead process engineering design of water and wastewater treatment and delivery systems. Prepare PFDs, water balances, MSDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, datasheets, and specifications. Conduct complex research, develop recommendations for equipment or material selection, and manage detailed design and procurement, including construction and commissioning support. Manage assigned budget, schedule and quality requirements; evaluate, select and adapt engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.Review work of junior engineers or engineering assignments. Oversee data collection, assimilation and management for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; serve as responsible charge for a project. Knowledge&Innovation
Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance within a particular practice area. Design a complete project of complex scope within an assigned practice area, coordinate with the industrial water team segments, and lead presentations at critical conferences. Client Focus
Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects. Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities, including participation in pre‑positioning meetings, proposal development, client interviews and development of effective sales messages.Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to the assigned engineering discipline. Effective oral and written communication skills; drive for results; quality‑driven; prioritization, planning, delegation, conflict management, ability to handle ambiguity and build effective teams.Deep understanding of consulting, project execution, client services and business development. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program in the home country or country of practice. Minimum of 11 years of related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).Certifications
Required to have Professional Engineer registration or licensure, or willingness and ability to pursue such registration. Work Environment / Physical Demands
Typical office environment, construction setting, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Activities include sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
